Feel free to take the Galveston to Bolivar Ferry located on the East end of the island. It is a really cool, and free, way to get on the water. Be warned though, traffic and wait times can be hours long on the weekends during the summer. Even if the Galveston side is smooth, the Bolivar side could be crazy. You can call ahead to check on wait times.
