Located inside a former bicycle shop, K.Y.’s offers popular Louisiana cuisine including seafood platters, po-boys, red beans & rice and gumbo, as well as burgers, salads and full bar. Built in 1902, the building now occupied by K.Y.'s was originally the home to Marguerite McDaniels Millinery. From 1910 to 1965 the Andrea Carollo family operated a grocery on the site, and in the late 60's, it became Slidell Bicycle and Lawnmower Shop until 1992, when K.Y.'s Olde Towne Bicycle Shop began operation.

Times Grill is located in the original brick Olde Towne Railroad Depot which was built around 1903 for the New Orleans & Northeastern/New Orleans & Great Northern railroad, supplanting an earlier wooden passenger depot.
In 1990, just before extensive renovations, the building was put on the National Register of Historic Places, to protect its original character.
About three miles from the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, scattered houses had been built near Robert’s Landing as early as 1852; the landing allowed the Spanish, French, and later, Americans to travel by boat along the bayou Bonfouca to Lake Pontchartrain. The need for better overland transportation to the north and east of New Orleans, however, encouraged the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad to build through the present site of Slidell, at Roberts’ Landing, and continuing on to Jackson, Mississippi. The first survey team came in 1881 and the first train traveled along that line through the area on October 15, 1883.
In 1883, railroad surveyors mapped the town and named it Slidell Station in honor of John Slidell, a U.S. Senator and Confederate official. The Town of Slidell was incorporated on November 3, 1888, and it enclosed about 2,320 acres. The railroad, from 1903 through 1946, formed the mainline of Slidell’s prosperity. In the thirty years after its founding, Slidell developed a creosote plant, one of the country’s largest brick manufacturing facilities, a large lumber mill, and a shipyard—which contributed significantly to the national efforts in both world wars. Slidell boomed in the 1960s due to the location of NASA’s Slidell Computer Complex there, in 1962, to support the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi and the Michoud Assembly Center in New Orleans. Today, Slidell is still the largest city in St. Tammany Parish.

Visitors catch beads during Mardi Gras parades and cabbages during the St. Patrick’s Day parade. The community gathers en masse every spring to enjoy a free symphony concert in Heritage Park, and celebrates the spring and fall seasons, which bring the Bayou Jam Concert Series.
Acclaimed in Southern Living, the tree-shaded streets of Olde Towne are filled with visitors and vendors from throughout the south during the Antique District Street Fair in the spring and fall. Every November brings Arts Evening, one of the area’s largest cultural festivals, featuring the works of over 100 artists and a variety of live entertainment throughout Olde Towne.
From boiled shrimp overlooking the marina to crawfish fettuccini by candlelight; from po-boys in the park to a snowball in Olde Towne; red beans at the diner to gourmet coffee at a sidewalk table- Slidell is a great place to eat. There’s even a steak house so popular it doesn’t even need a sign.
Live oaks drip with Spanish moss, loblolly pines stretch five stories tall, beds of Louisiana irises nod in the breeze, a graceful white egret tiptoes between the cattails. Photo opportunities abound. A hidden world can be discovered from a flat bottomed boat gliding through the dark waters.
On the eastern edge of St. Tammany Parish, Slidell boasts a vibrant arts scene, family-friendly festivals, proximity to Honey Island Swamp tours and is less than 30 minutes north of New Orleans' French Quarter. Louisiana's only rails-to-trails conversion, the 31-mile Trace winds through the Northshore, a paved ribbon connecting five communities interspersed with lovely green space. The path offers all who ride, walk or even rollerblade it, a way to experience both the towns and the natural beauty that so enhances the quality of life on the Northshore.
Originally a corridor for the Illinois Central Railroad, the Trace now is an earth-friendly hike and bike trail stretching from downtown Covington, through Abita Springs, Mandeville, and Lacombe and ending in Slidell. In 2017, the Tammany Trace was inducted into the Rails-to-Trails Hall of Fame.
