some Beaches within Walking Distance
Beaches
There are many dozens of wonderful beaches, several within walking distance. While I don’t know of a beach I don’t like, here are some of my within-walking-distance favorites.
There is another section in the Guidebook listing other great beaches. As you can imagine, the great-beach list could be endless.
This is a small neighborhood beach on Bass River; it’s 0.4 miles from the Suite. It has brackish ocean water & the only waves are from passing boats. Great place to sit with your morning coffee or a beachy drink and/or for evening or morning swims when you’ll often have the beach to yourself.
Also, a great place to put in a kayak a few hours before low tide.

Windmill Beach
River StreetThis is a small neighborhood beach on Bass River; it’s 0.4 miles from the Suite. It has brackish ocean water & the only waves are from passing boats. This ocean beach on Nantucket Sound is right at the mouth of Bass River. It has lots of sand, a snack bar, drop-in volley ball, a fishing pier, and plenty of boats passing by as there is a boat launch on the river.
There are picnic tables, so if you get hungry and you don’t see anything inviting at the snack bar, you can always bring your own food, or have something delivered from Seafood Sam’s, Toly’s Pizza, or almost any local establishment.

Smuggler's Beach
This ocean beach on Nantucket Sound is right at the mouth of Bass River. It has lots of sand, a snack bar, drop-in volley ball, a fishing pier, and plenty of boats passing by as there is a boat launch on the river.

Parkers River Beach
Another beach with a snack bar, and like the others in this section, an easy walk or bike ride from the Suite. This beach is the site of outdoor evening concerts and movie nights. Also, great for all the same things as Smugglers, in fact it’s in the same row of beaches along Nantucket Sound at the end of the road perpendicular to my home.

On the way there, Good Friends Cafe has excellent breakfasts (and lunches). The Lighthouse Inn Restaurant, right near the beach, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in July and August.
West Dennis Strand
This beach is an easy 4 mile bike ride mostly on side roads with only a short stretch on Route 28. Of course, you can drive there, but like all other Cape beaches, in season, the parking lot fills up fast. The beach runs right along with parking lot, so you can easily run back and get things out of your car. There is a good snack bar and while there aren't many sand dunes, the flat sand is great for beach walking.
