Sightseeing

30 minute drive from the cabin. There is a swimming beach (small cash fee for use), two boat docks, and a marina with all sizes of boat and watersport rentals. There are also lovely trails at various points around the lake; I recommend the “Old Veteran” trail for just a short walk - it showcases one of the oldest pine trees in the area. The damn that made the lake years ago flooded the old town of Pactola; several of the cabins moved out of there are found right in Silver City!

Jenny Gulch Picnic Area is just a mile down the road from the cabin! It’s a great place to put a kayak or paddleboard into Pactola. If you walk a short distance you’ll find great places to swim, fish, or just picnic. There are boat rentals at the marina on the south side of the lake.

About 45 minutes from the cabin, this monument-in-progress is privately funded, designed, and constructed. The Native American museum and exhibits at the base will give you a much more holistic view of the history and people of this area.

This is my hometown! Plenty of cute shops, restaurants, and museums to fill a day of wandering around!

This scenic trail starts at Sylvan Lake. It has a steep staircase at the start that follows a waterfall, and several rock tunnels. One of my favorites since I was a kid.

About 45 minutes drive from the cabin, it’s pretty impressive, even for those of us who’ve grown up with it. A must-see!
