This place has fantastic sandwiches and great customer service! River Street Deli has been in business for quite awhile, and the locals love it as much as the tourists do. Great place for lunch on the North Shore. Clumpies Ice Cream is right next door, too.

Sightseeing

Visitors can take in the sights of the river, walk across the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge into downtown, play frisbee, ride the carousel, splash in the fountain, or explore the many places to shop and eat.

My family LOVES going to the aquarium! From Chattanooga’s northshore, you can walk there by crossing the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge, or you can take a short ride on the FREE electric shuttle. If you visit during warm weather with your kids, be sure to bring along the kids’ swimsuits or change of clothes, as there’s a fairly large water play area outside the entrances to the aquarium buildings!

This is probably my favorite spot in Chattanooga. And it’s free! You drive up Lookout Mountain, park in the small parking lot, and take a short hike down to see the spectacular view! Great for a picnic lunch or a romantic view of the sunset. You can also continue your hike if you’d like, as the path continues past sunset rock.

Renaissance Park is connected to Coolidge Park, so it’s easy to get to from there. This will sound strange, but my kids and I LOVE riding pieces of cardboard down the hill in Renaissance Park. I usually just do it once or twice, but it can occupy my kids for over an hour, and it’s fun to watch! There are typically cardboard pieces already there to spare, but sometimes we stop in at Whole Foods and grab some to take with us. The views of the river are great too, especially at sunset.

The Hunter has a wonderful collection of art, and they always have interesting new temporary exhibits. Located in the beautiful Bluff View Art District, the art museum is easy to get to by crossing over the pedestrian bridge from north Chatt, and then crossing over a small see-through bridge to the museum itself. There are beautiful views from the bluff! And one of my favorite coffee shops, Rembrandt’s, is right next door to the museum and has a really nice, large patio with a European vibe.

Favorite shops

Blue skies has been my favorite shop in Chattanooga for many years. They have an excellent selection of unique gift items, and sometimes I stop in just to browse and read some of the hilarious greeting cards.

This large vintage/antique shop is located downtown, and has an amazing selection of “refinds,” big and small. There are plenty of vendor booths to browse, with many tastes and items from various eras. The owner, Carol, is fantastic and helpful, as are her employees.
