Food scene

Copper Crown is our East Asheville local favorite! Dinner is always amazing, the environment is very warm and servers are excellent! Don't be deterred by the strip-mall-ish exterior, the inside is very classy. If you want to make an evening of it, head across the street to the Social for a late night beer.

On the East side of Asheville, and very easy to get to, Filo is a dreamy stone cottage turned coffee and pastry shop. Bring your laptop to get some work done or cozy up on the couch with a latte and some chocolate cake.

Think you can't have amazing sushi in a land-locked state? Think again. Wasabi is one of my all time favorite restaurants in Asheville. The spicy tuna roll and spicy crab salad roll are so so good. Pair them with miso soup and edamame. Consider ordering-in one night using Asheville's local delivery service "Takeout Central". They will delivery Wasabi right to your door.

My all time personal favorite, Zambra has an amazing collection of small plates. Try the scallops, grilled NC shrimp, croquetas, stuffed dates and chicharonnes. It was voted Asheville's most romantic restaurant several years in a row for its dark, bohemian environment. Make a reservation to sit in a nooky booth or show up late night for a spot at the bar.

An underground cafe that is extra cool because it has absolutely no signage. Just plug it into your maps and look for the french broad chocolate lounge as a landmark. The cafe has absolutely amazing donuts and lunch favorites like tuna melts and grilled cheese.

The BEST dessert. Everyone will find something they love. Try the vanilla cake, macarons or sipping chocolate. Avoid going on a Friday or Saturday night because the line will be out the door.

Neighborhoods

Montford has so much to offer. Amazing restaurants including Chiesa (romantic Italian) All Day Darling (Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch) and Nine Mile (seafood) are neighborhood staples. Also Little Jumbo is very close by and is a lovely little cocktail bar. Consider walking around the historic area to see beautifully restored victorian homes and to stroll through Montford park. There is a really cool amphitheater called Montford Park Players that hosts Shakespeare performances throughout the summer.

Black Mountain is the most charming area in Asheville. You won't find a more friendly, peaceful escape than you will spending a day or half day trip to this adorable town! It takes about 20 minutes to get there on the highway from downtown Asheville. Start your morning with a walk around lake Tomahawk, then venture on to Louise's for breakfast/brunch. Stroll the local shops and galleries until you get thirsty, then pop into lookout brewery. Head to La Guinguette for incredible crepes or empanadas for dinner, then finish off your night at at White Horse Black Mountain for music and possibly swing dancing.

Craggy Gardens makes for a perfect blue ridge mountain adventure. Start early in the afternoon around 3pm. Pack a picnic with wine, cheeses, charcuterie, bread dessert and a blanket and plan on spending several hours in the mountains. It will take around 40 minutes to drive up to craggy gardens but the drive is so beautiful that it is part of the adventure. Once you reach the parking lot, the hike to craggy gardens is only about 3/4 of a mile so its a pretty short up and back. The summit of the hike opens up to gorgeous views of the blue ridge mountains and plentiful picnic areas.
