Longwood Gardens

This is a great place to get to know the beginnings of the DuPont family and their influence in Delaware. You can tour their mansion by taking the bus from the museum.
The museum itself has info on the industries that shaped Delaware.
There is also an "engineering" section for the kids on the grounds. If you schedule it right, you can see a gunpowder demo too.
If you want to see everything, I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes. The walk by the river can be quite enjoyable on a nice day.

Hagley Museum

Art Loop on the first Fridays in Wilmington is a great time.
Every first Friday, different establishments around town including museums, galleries, restaurants, and bars will exhibit local artwork. Some of the galleries will have light refreshments.
The downtown area of Market St is especially lively on these nights.
