Eating & Drinking-Out Ideas!
Rhoscolyn LL65 2NJ 01407 740317 Open for coffee, lunch, nibbles, supper & drinks - from 12pm daily - with food-orders until 9pm, and normal pub hours usually applying otherwise. Gorgeous sea views, stylish, with an open fire in winter – you can’t really go wrong with the popular White Eagle! They’re used to muddy/sandy boots/paws - but it’s also a lovely place to go for a special evening-out. Yes, dogs are allowed inside in their ‘snug’ area - and outside on the decking too. It’s family friendly, has a beer-garden - and there are wonderful walking opportunities in the area as well! Rhoscolyn’s main beach is just down the lane – so it’s perfect for some ‘après sea’. Lots of their meals include local produce – e.g. fresh seafood & welsh lamb/beef etc. They also host events throughout the year – so keep an eye on their website/Facebook pages! During school holidays, at weekends and on special occasions, if you want to eat there we’d recommend booking in advance – the same goes for larger groups!

Trearddur Bay - LL65 2YU. Although we prefer this place for a drink rather than food, it serves lunch & supper – and sometimes breakfast too. With its stylish seaside décor, and sunny outdoor seating area, it’s long been a local favourite. Being located on Ravens Point Road (although there are no sea-views) means it’s close to Trearddur’s smaller beaches; pretty Porth Diana & Porth Castell. During busy periods we’d recommend booking in advance; the same goes for larger groups. Very popular with the sailing crowd. They often have 2-for-1 offers out of season – so keep an eye out! Food times vary throughout the seasons.

Everything from their freshly baked sourdough - to the already famous ‘Snicker’s' trifle - is produced from scratch, so they can easily adapt dishes to suit your requirements. Rhosneigr - LL64 5JP - 01407 812 829 Located on the outskirts of the village, this trendy seaside themed bar & restaurant is run by the same team as Rhoscolyn’s White Eagle. Sadly, there are no sea views, but it does overlook pretty Maelog Lake. The sea (which you can often hear) is actually just over the dues behind their unique environmentally-friendly ‘Huf-haus’ property! You can even nip straight off the beach for a ‘takeout’! Generally speaking, they’re open all year round - serving morning coffee, breakfast baps (in the busy periods), cakes, lunch, afternoon-teas & supper. You can even choose between their ‘Decking’ or ‘main restaurant’ menus & venues. With heated ‘beach-huts’ on the raised outdoor decking, and a relaxed indoor/outdoor bar downstairs, this place is great come rain or shine! Open Monday – Saturday: 10am - 11pm. Food Service times are Monday - Saturday: 12pm - 9pm/Sunday: 12pm - 8pm. They also host lots of ‘foodie’ events throughout the year.

Rhosneigr - LL64 5UQ - 01407 810598 Under new management, so the following may have changed a little. Another favourite breakfast spot of ours - but lovely for lunch, afternoon-tea and supper too! In general, they’re open every day from March until the end of October. However, opening times can be quite erratic; anything between 8am-4pm/10am-4pm, even 8am-11pm during the summer holidays – so do check first! For evening meals, booking in advance is a MUST! Serving both sweet & savoury galettes/crêpes, as well as other scrummy continental treats, this place should definitely be on your Anglesey ‘to do’ list! Very small though, so good luck getting a table in the busy periods! You can even watch your meal being prepared - as the cooking takes place in the main dining area! No fizzy drinks – just real fruit milkshakes & smoothies etc! With sunny outdoor seating available, it’s super for watching the ‘Rhosneigr world’ go by. Located on the High St; next door to the Fat Face clothing store.

Aberffraw - LL63 5BX - 01407 840222 Also known as The Crown, it was refurbished in 2018 - it still looks very 90’s to us! However, being located right in the village square, there can be a nice atmosphere when it’s busy. It’s very friendly and, although pretty predictable, the food is always good value. The beer garden offers nice views of the estuary, with Snowdonia as a backdrop on clear days. We wouldn’t go there for a special occasion, but after a walk on the nearby beach it’s a super spot for a quick pint and some local chit-chat. They have live sports on TV too. Beaumaris - LL58 8BS - 01248 811055 Although there are loads of other lovely places to eat-out in Beaumaris, we always seem to end up here! Situated just behind the town’s littlee pier, and with stunning sea views available (both inside and out) it really is a sweet little spot! Offering drinks, breakfasts, lunch & supper, their speciality sandwich melts, homemade soups, steak & ale pie, fillet steaks, and Welsh rarebit are all excellent! They also have a good choice of vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options - and a great children's menu too. They’ve already been voted the 3rd best seafood restaurant in Anglesey on TripAdvisor; which isn’t surprising if you’ve tried their famous homemade fish & chips (in gin and tonic batter), Menai mussels, or dressed crab salad! Sitting outside - (over-looking the Menai Strait across to Snowdonia), with a hot chocolate in hand and local treat on your plate, is simply delightful! In summer they’re open daily from 8am - 9.30pm – and the rest of the year from Monday - Friday, 9am- 9pm – with Saturday and Sunday hours being from 8.30am - 9pm.

Neaumaris - LL58 8BB - 01248 810429 The Midland, with its chic and understated decor (which has breathed new life into this beautiful old ban (hence the name) has proved VERY popular since its opening! The only downside is the sheer variety on the menu - which leaves you struggling to know which options to go for! True to its Spanish roots though, there are things like Jamon Iberico & Patatas Bravas - but they’ve cleverly managed to mix these up with Welsh recipes - as well as seafood, and ‘garden’ flavours; which makes the whole experience so much more interesting and varied! As with all the best Anglesey eateries, there’s an emphasis on local produce - especially on seafood - and it’s loads of fun getting to try lots of different dishes! So, if you like mixing & matching your meals - this is the place for you! Open in winter (from November until the end of March) from Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm-3pm, then again from 5pm – until last orders (but closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Open in Summer (from Easter to November)7 days a week, from 12pm – until last orders. Glutenfree, vegetarian and vegan options available.

Marian-glas/Treath Bychan - LL73 8PN - 01248 853050 Just around the corner from Red Wharf Bay ‘proper’ – this is where the sailing club of the same name has it's headquarters and moor their boats! Not only a cute café & beach shop – they rent-out kayaks during busy periods too! Outside you get a somewhat restricted view of the bay – and of the pretty harbour-front houses here. I had scrambled egg & smoked salmon last time we were there; perfect in the morning sunshine whilst reading the papers (which you can purchase in the shop – along with a variety of beach goods)! The first time we visited was an unexpected treat - as we only noticed the sign pointing off the A5025 by chance! Serving brilliant all-day-breakfasts, light lunches, crêpes - and with homemade milkshakes and cakes fresh from the bakery, The Beach Cafe is certainly worth going in search of! Family-run, the cafe prides itself on its warm welcome & excellent service. Local produce is used wherever possible! You can sit inside or out – or take food down to the pretty beach. Usually open 7 days a week from Easter to September.

Serving good, honest, home-cooked food – it’s the perfect spot for a bit of beach-side refuelling. Being slightly elevated means there are fabulous views of Benllech’s golden sands – with the outdoor becoming a sun-trap on nice days! Located practically on the Coastal Path - it’s a great excuse to stop, put your feet up - and take in the old-fashioned seaside atmosphere! Open Mon – Sun: 10am - 9pm (Easter - Sept), and Sun, Mon, Wed & Thu: 10am-4pm (Oct - er)/Fri & Sat: 10am-9pm (Oct - Easter). Make sure you book ahead for Sunday lunch to ensure you get a table!
Moelfre - LL72 8HL - 01248 410386 Ann’s Pantry sits in the heart of Moelfre - just a stone’s throw from its picturesque little harbour. We love this place! With homemade soups, sandwiches, ciabattas, burgers, salads, mixed-platters & local steak on offer – plus delicious sweet treats too – it’s the perfect stop-off for walkers taking in this section of the Anglesey Coastal Path. Focusing on quality & freshness (even growing some of their own produce), they only use free-range eggs and ‘real’ flavours in their cakes. Pretty inside AND out, its walled garden & courtyard area (including a cosy covered cushioned corner & BBQ shed) makes it ideal for those with dogs – although they’re allowed inside too! Sea-views – just about – especially from the garden! Opening hours are seasonal - but generally every day between May and September: 11am until 5pm. They serve gorgeous evening meals as well – but get in touch with them about this as their opening hours (even during the daytime) vary depending on the weather and how busy they are. Check out their website for news and events – because they often host special foodie’ evenings with live music etc – oh, and they sell pretty gift and crafts too!

Moelfre - 8HH, 01248 410231 A Traditional pub overlooking the pretty harbour - with inside & outside sea-views available. Nothing fancy, but really friendly - with reasonably priced homemade pub-grub. A welcome resting point for walkers and water-sports enthusiasts. The internal decor has a (dated) nautical theme, with lots of original shipping lanterns and so forth - so it feels bit like being in an old-fashioned seaside-tavern…with a few 70's touches! Lighter options available, as well as pies, steaks, gammon & curries etc - with comfort puds too! Opening Times: Monday - Saturday: 12 - 11pm & Sunday: 12 - 10:30pm. Food Times: Monday - Sunday: 12 - 3pm & 6 - 9pm. We sometimes pop in for a quick one before/after a meal at Anne’s Pantry. However, sitting outside watching the comings & goings of the harbour, with a sandwich & beer in hand, can be lovely! It was also featured heavily in the BBC’s light-drama, ‘Pitching In’!

Moelfre - LL72 8HL, 01248 410822 Small but sweet - and delightful in that traditional sea-side way - this place is located just across the road from the Kinmel Arms Pub - in the little P&D car park right next to the harbour wall. Popular, with a wide range of flavours - kids love this place, and adults do too! Sometimes they put out a few chairs & tables – but best eaten sitting on the harbour-wall looking out to sea, or down on the pretty pebble-beach below. Both cones & tubs available. Depending on the season, their homemade gelatos (made on the premises), have ever-changing flavours!

Dulas - LL70 9EX - 01248 410205 Just a shorth-ish walk away from Lligwy beach - along the coastal path (west), up at the top of the pretty Dulas Estuary. Our top tip if walking is to take the ‘higher’ path along the estuary’s eastern edge; choosing the lower one means getting very muddy indeed! Now, I’m not going to say we’re in-love with its décor (a motley collection of naff pub-bric-a-brac and “objet d'art”) - but it’s certainly fun! However - we've heard it's now under new management - so perhaps some of the tat might go! There’s everything you’d expect from a pub-grub menu on offer including, ham, egg & chips, homemade pies, sausage & mash etc – and it really is excellent value - but don’t go there hoping for something ‘posh’! It has more of a ‘local’ feel than many other places – being especially lively at weekends. The last time we went, we walked into a packed bar with people playing fiddles and what-not –and it turned it into one of the best evenings we’d had in ages! It’s also family-friendly, with a sea-view beer- garden. Usually open daily from 11am – 11pm throughout the year – with last food orders at 9pm. Sitting looking down the stunning estuary after a long walk is just what the doctor ordered!

Rho`sgoch - LL656 OAB - 01407 830720 We can safely say there’s not much to recommend it terms of pubs and cafes in Amlwch the area - however, a little outside of the town you’ll find The Ring (Y Ring). A traditional establishment built in 1851 by ‘Greenhall and Whitley’, it’s operated as a Free-house for a number of years now. The current owner has had the property for 13 years, and his family have had a connection for over 29. Inside you’ll find a warm Welsh welcome - with log fires, a large selection of real ales - plus tasty food option. It has a lovely local feel about it – and their live music evenings (often folk inspired) are always fun too! They regularly host quiz & charity nights too - and much more besides – so make sure you check their online ‘events diary’ to see all what’s going on! Food served Mon – Fri: 6 - 8:30pm/Sat: 12 - 2 & 6 - 8.30pm/Sun: 12 - 6PM (Carvery: 12 – 3pm) – with the bar open from Mon – Fri: 5pm Onwards/Sat: 12pm – onwards/Sun: 1pm – onwards.

Cemaes Bay - LL67 0LH - 01407 710227 This traditional hotel was renovated and rejuvenated a year or so ago – and now offers a much smarter dining-out experience – with its Bay View restaurant & bar being open to non-residents. Located on the edge of Cemaes Bay (the most northerly village in Wales), it’s surrounded by wonderful countryside, has lovely gardens - and is only a shortish walk away from the beach and Coastal Path. Usually serving drinks and food between 12 – 8pm. Check their website though - as they have different menus available at different times - including their light-bites & Sunday Lunch options. Although the new decor looks a little uninspiring to us, it’s MUCH better than it was! You can see the nearby VERY UGLY power-station from here though - although they've done their best to screen it.

Cemaes Bay - LL67 0HH - 01407 710554 There are quite a few pubs and places to grab a bite in Cemaes - only not many of them are really worth recommending! Nothing massively wrong with any of them - they’re all just a bit dated and/or bland. This chippy is quite nice though - and they also have things for those who don’t want fish – including pizzas, curries & more! Cheap and cheerful, great service, freshly cooked, good portion sizes - with both eat-in or take-out options available. We always eat ours siting on the seawall! You’ll usually find an ice-cream stand in the beach car-park too – so that’s pudding sorted!

Church Bay - LL65 4EU – 01407 730650 Open for morning coffee, lunch & afternoon teas (plus ice-cream & lollies) from 10.30am – 5pm during peak seasons…but otherwise check! Some sea views available inside – and from their lovely raised tea-garden area too! Take-outs available for the beach. Right on the Coastal Path! We love it here! Their MASSIVE scones are a delight – and they’re licenced too! if they're closed there's often a food-van run by someone else there instead.

Church Bay - LL65 4EU - 01407 730241 An old favourite – but a bit dated these days! Live lobsters & crabs kept on site – and all caught locally. Nothing wrong with traditional, and the staff are always lovely, but it’s lagging behind many of Anglesey’s ‘newer’ restaurants in lots of ways. Still popular though, especially with older locals, and for those who remember it being a special childhood treat! Sea views from some parts of the restaurant and garden.
