The village Rataryd is habituated since stone age. A lot of flint tools are found on the land by the lake but that is all we know about that. We can see a lot of remains from the vikings. On our land there is a big viking tomb (a big pile of stones) so just ask and I point it out for you. We have also a lot of remains from old age agriculture, you can see that as smaller piles of stones on old meadows. At 1800 and forward to the 1900 people were very poor in this area and a lot of them emigrated to America. The peasant had a hard work here with the poor soil and they also built all the beautiful stonewalls you can se all over the place. At the 60:s the tractor became more common and the lots went bigger and they took away a lot of walls. When you walk in the forest there are still a lot of stonewalls there, because peasants lived and had their animals there. 1710-11 the pest killed 100 000 of 1,3 miljon people in Sweden, and the churchyards were full, so we have a pest graveyard in the village, it's marked with a big cross in the forest. If you walk around in the village you can see a lot of traces of the history, the oldest house on the farm is from 1845. We also try to keep up to history by celebrating midsummer in a traditional way by the lake, we keep the old road open (the old grass road). If you want to see something very old and mysterious, there is Fotastenen (with carvings of shape of feet) and another stone in the village with carved holes in them, probably for sacrificing, but no one know for sure.

Årshultsmyren is completely untouched and unused as a bog. The area offers two loops, one in the north (orange 4 km) and one in the south (yellow 4 km). They can be combined with the help of a string of loops that only link these together (a total of 9.5 km). The trails are currently 2019 newly renovated so all spans are in top condition.
