For a natural escape, take a 45min ride on a local colectivo bus from the market to the maya village of Roberto Barrios. Two accesses, before the bridge or 5min walk from the curve at the end of the village. Beautiful turquoise cascades, increasingly touristic, but still quiet on weekdays. Small entrance fee applies. When relying on colectivo, get back before 5pm.

For a natural escape, take a 45min ride on a local colectivo bus from the market to the maya village of Roberto Barrios. Two accesses, before the bridge or 5min walk from the curve at the end of the village. Beautiful turquoise cascades, increasingly touristic, but still quiet on weekdays. Small entrance fee applies. When relying on colectivo, get back before 5pm.
Refreshing river with small cascades and clear water, the hotel at the left side provides guards and restaurant for a small fee.

Neighborhoods
The mayan ruins of Palenque, unique by their stucco designs, architectural quality and the famous tomb of King Pakal, are surrounded by more than 1000ha of pristine jungle. Count at least three hours for central temples and pyramids, jungle walk through residential zones and site museum. Additional sights in this direction include: Zoo Aluxes, the Spa of hotel Chankah, the Mayabell camping restaurant and the famous Panchan restaurant and dance venue.
