The Trsat Tower, on a 138-meter-high hill, is a strategically exhilarating viewpoint dominating Rijeka and an impressive strip of river Rječina. In this spot, from the prehistoric times, was the Liburnian observatory from where it was controlled from the interior to the sea. The Romans used this location at the time of the defense system, so-called. Liburnian limes, whose starting point was Tarsatika, a town fortress, on the site of today's Old Town of Rijeka.
