Sightseeing

Beverly Hills is fun but much smaller than people realize so only need to go there for a meal and some shopping if you like but it's not really a whole day affair. You can easily put that on your list and another neighborhood close by like Brentwood or maybe even the beach- Venice and Santa Monica.

It's a great day for families and friends alike with the Pier, the boardwalk, the promenade (which really is good for a few shops but not much else) but Santa Monica has beautiful ocean view restaurants and bars. It's cleaner and more family friendly than Venice.

Venice is the coolest place in LA- outside of West Hollywood that is. Fantastic for the vegan traveller or those trying to keep up their social media presence of their trip. The boardwalk is the best place Ive seen for people watching and never a dull moment with the amount of activity happening to the skateboarders, market stalls, buskers and just people enjoying the beach and boardwalk. My advice is eat on Abbot Kinney or Main Street if you want a meal. Amazing restaurants on both. Places on the boardwalk aren't great and very expensive because of the view. An insider tip is James Beach which has been around forever, but if you want something more modern try The Rose Venice.

Restaurants are very busy weekend nights and brunch so try and make a reservation if you can.

If you dont have a reservation, you can usually get a table at Norah's on Santa Monica which is a joy as well as Connie and Ted's. I also like The Hudson for brunch. The Griddle always has a line so would try and go mid-week instead.

Walking the Neighborhood.

Sunset Blvd and much of LA often has a lot of "characters" on the streets. My advice is don't feel you have to converse with someone just because they speak to you as they often will, if you feel uncomfortable. I have seen tourists not sure how to handle it so the best approach is always just to smile and keep walking.

Driving best times

If you are driving in LA- the best times to miss traffic are between 10-2pm then about 8:30pm onwards street are much clearer. The traffic flows mostly West in the mornings and East at night. So for example if you want to go to the beach (West) do not come back in the afternoon! The traffic will be at least an 1-2 hours. The best would be to stay there for dinner and return after of which you are looking at only a 20-30 mins trip. Or go in the morning around 10 to miss traffic and head back no later than 2pm.
