I like having my lunch or dinner by the sea in Nea Chora and hereby I recommend you Portes restaurant, with a different approach to Greek traditional dishes!
An ideal place for those who wish to try an authentic Cretan (not even Greek!) cuisine with varieties of local meat cooked in traditional way. But! If you are vegan/vegetarian there is still a lot to enjoy! Reservation might be needed!

Amazing vegan tastes! The menu is not big and so I have tried almost every dish and all of them taste amazing! I am snot sure, but non-vegan might be impressed as well :)

I like this creative version of traditional Greek dishes, especially that some of them are highlighted as vegan! My favorite eggplant spread tastes amazing here! Try spinach rise ;)

Sightseeing
An unusual and not widely known part of Chania, Tabakaria is located 2,5km to the west from the old habrour. It is a place where in 19th century tanneries (for processing leather) were located. Now you will find there numerous workshops, most of them are closed but some are working. A nice place to visit for those who is tired of walking in the old habrour and wish to see something new withing a pleasant walking distance.

Don't just stick to the coffee - shops in the old harbour! Just behing Sabionara Rampart (west edge) there is a wonderful sea-front area Koum - Kapi with fancy coffee - shops and a couple of places to eat, popular between students and those who prefer to visit less promoted places :)

The best way to enjoy Cretan sea is a private sailing cruise with experienced skipper! You visit Mahairida bay, Thodorou island and small islet Lazaretta, enjoy swimming, snorkeling and lunch on board!

For those who have a long stay in Chania I recommend to visit farmer's market in Nea Chora! You will find verity of seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as olives and cheese!
