Casa Piriquita offers the famous Queijada de Sintra which is what got this pastry shop started, and was propelled to success by King Carlos I. These delicious little pies have a crusty exterior and a soft inner batter made with cheese, sugar, eggs, flour and a little cinnamon. They are not too sweet and have a hint of a fresh cheese taste. Delectable!

Single ticket for all castles

The entrance fee into the Pena Palace is €14.00 for adults, a cheaper ticket which provides access to the park and palace terraces but not interiors costs less. From Pena palace you can also buy a joint palace ticket which lets you visit all 3 castles for about 21 Euros.

Don't use the bus, there is plenty of parking around the castles if you go early in the day.

There is a train which brings you from Lisbon to Sintra. Then there is a tour bus which starts from the Sintra train station to take you to all palaces like a hop-on, hop-off. While this is a decent option, parking is actually pretty easy to find and gives you much more flexibility to move between castles.

Plenty of Parking

For visiting the 5 castles go early and it is in fact a good idea to bring your car. The hop on hop off buses comes once in 45 minutes and you end up wasting a lot of time going in between them

If you are short on time

Simply do Pena palace and Pena gardens. I recommend taking some time and enjoying Pena gardens. Take a little blanket and hang out by the lake which is close to the exit. Its well worth the trip to Sintra and you will come away with some lovely instagram shots.

Train from Lisbon to Sintra

Getting to Sintra from Lisbon is easy. There are trains at least every 30 minutes on weekdays, every 30 minutes at weekends, from Lisbon's city centre Rossio station. The journey takes 39 minutes and a return (round-trip) ticket is €4.30 (tariff 2016).
