This restaurant makes healthy, unique food. There's a cafe inside too, and a beautiful sitting area upstairs. It has a peaceful west coast vibe, and the staff are chilled out and friendly. This place lives up to its name. You will feel nourished.

This is listed in restaurants but really it's a bar with some good, small plates of food. If the weather suits, sit outside, on the Market Square side. If it rains, stay in and find a cool table. One of our favourite spots! The beer selection is huge huge huge and the staff are friendly and helpful. There are lots of places to try the always-growing list of local craft brews, but start here.

Best breakfast in town! Get here before the lineup starts. Even if there is a lineup, give your name, and go next door to Habit for a coffee, and when your table is ready, they will come over and find you. Be hungry! A solid plate of amazing food.

Walk across the park to the best pizza ever. Ever!!! This is my all-time favourite restaurant. There is often a line up, so leave your name and stroll Cook Street Village, lined with old chestnut trees, and explore a few of the side streets. We suggest you sit at the bar and watch the pizzas as they're quickly assembled and fired in the wood oven. Good wines and local beers. The green salad is super duper too.

A fabulous and crazy shoot-the-lock-off, hole-in-the-wall restaurant where you pretty much get served whatever the heck they feel like serving you. It can get a bit pricey sometimes, depending on how they are feeling and what they've gone out and found to create their menu for the day. It's a bit of a roll-the-dice and see-what-you-get kinda situation, and we very highly recommend it. Never dull! The friendly staff will be crunching into their tiny kitchen, and you'll be elbow-rubbing with other adventurous, interesting diners. There's only three tables and a small bar, so have a plan B if it is full, or just go in and stand there and they will figure out something.

A cozy hidden cave-like place in the deep corner of a heritage building. Great drinks, food, and service.

Going out for breakfast is a Victoria tradition, and Floyds was there at the start. To our good fortune, Floyd's recently moved into the James Bay neighbourhood, so we suggest you walk on over.

Drinks & Nightlife
Our neighbourhood pub at the other end of Medana Street, in an old house. Meet the locals, have a local beer and a burger. Sitting outside is recommended though you might need sunscreen, and then later, a sweater.

Lido is often busy but if you can get a table outside in the sun, it's a good experience for a drink and some food. You'll need both sunscreen and a sweater for the usual breeze.

Hmm Air BnB forced me to list this as a bar. It's actually more than that, because their tapas are excellent. The Spanish wine selection is always good. Sit on the patio in Trounce Alley if it is nice out. They have outdoor heaters but you may want a sweater. This is one of our favourite spots!

Walk the path and find a stairway and meet the ocean. Stare at seagulls while they stare back. Walk along old sun-bleached driftwood and throw rocks into the surf. Now you are one of us.

I wanted to mention walking out to the end of the Ogden Point Breakwater. It's a popular walk. The sundial is there too but I wouldn't call it an attraction. There's a bistro here with a bar downstairs, but the main attraction here is to walk to the end of the breakwater. It's what the locals do. Then you walk back again. There's something zen about it. If you're lucky they'll be a gaggle of fisherman at the end cussing and telling stories to each other. They're usually there.

A small traditional family-owned corner store pretty much across the street from us. Super handy for the basics.

24 hour grocery store. Great selection. Very nice, helpful staff. It has a pharmacy inside, but right across the street is Shoppers Drug Mart which might be better if they are open.

Sightseeing
Well I wanted to mention Fisherman's Wharf itself, not so much the park next to it, but the park is also nice. Walk the wharves here to see an eclectic mix of floathomes. There's fish and chips and other food on the wharf too. From here, hop the little harbour ferries to downtown or ask the captain for the full tour and they'll putter up and down the harbour to show and tell you interesting things for $30 per person. It's worth it.

Spend a few hours in here, it is worth it. Learn about our First Nations peoples, our boom and bust fishing and gold mining, visit old town, and see whatever the main exhibit is. This place is a gem and we're lucky to have it here.

Essentials
This is a good drug store. But James Bay village also Thrifty Foods ( a big grocery store open 24/7 with a pharmacy in it), and has a laundromat, a dry cleaners, a dollar store (under the drug store) a used book store, and lots of other services and shops.
