Combine some exercise and great food.
Enjoy an evening walk and dinner: Visit Sturgeon River Preserve (3791 Whitmarsh Rd, Gaylord, MI 49735, 11.4 miles, 16 min) and then dinner at Corwith Station (6461 Old 27 N, Vanderbilt, MI 49795), only 5 mins from the Preserve. Beautiful boardwalk built along the river and hiking trails. Easy terrain and loops from 0.12 to 0.75 miles.

See the Elk and lunch/dinner at The Pine Squirrel. Gaylord has a large elk heard in a fenced in area (116 Grandview Blvd, Gaylord, MI 49735, 3.9 mi, 11 min). You can also go to Aspen Park, Commerce Blvd, Gaylord, MI 49735 which has paved walking/bike trails and mountain bike trails. The paved trail goes along the back side of the elk viewing area. After some exercise go to The Pine Squirrel (1600 S. Otsego Ave, Gaylord, MI) for some great food.

Make sure to check hours on the day of your visit to make sure they are open. Have lunch or dinner at Paul's Pub (10757 M-32, Johannesburg, MI 49751). Open flame grilled streaks are great!

Great stop if you are headed west to the Traverse City area. Stop at the Torch Lake Beer Co. (9149 Helena Rd, Alden, MI 49612) for lunch and enjoy the quaint town and shops of Alden.
