Picture this: You’re lying on the beach in a luxuriously plush daybed while soaking up the sun. Someone brings you fresh snapper ceviche and a fruity cocktail with an umbrella (perfect for the ‘gram). You sip, sit back and relax as you admire the impending sunset slowly turn Miami’s skyline from a turquoise blue to cotton candy pink. The sun becomes enveloped into Biscayne Bay’s sparkling blue waves. You’re at maximum relaxation. But the night is still young: Do you join the rest of the crowd for drinks and hors d’oeuvres at the rustic-chic beach bar? Or maybe you decide to slip into your Lululemons and take a full-moon yoga class. Or perhaps you just want to continue to lie back as a DJ nearby spins chill beach tunes.

No wonder that Zak's bakery is always packed with people: this place is the best place in Wynwood for breakfast, lunch or a quick nibble. Everything is fresh and tasty. It's a bit pricey but you pay for quality. Highly...More. Kosher. That bread found on every table in town? Odds are Zak baked it. The popular baker, who has been supplying bread around town for years now, now has his own shop in the mix. Expect not only his signature breads, but also an assortment of soups, sandwiches, and pastries that will turn even the most carb-fearing person into a bread-loving convert.

A James Beard Award Best New Restaurant semifinalist and Time magazine’s best restaurant in Florida, KYU has become one of the hottest reservations in town. With a vertical garden exterior wall and a chic, minimalist industrial interior, the scene is buzzy and sophisticated from lunch to happy hour and dinner. Serving a diverse menu of beautifully executed pan-Asian, wood-fired cuisine inspired by chef Michael Lewis’ world travels, this is the kind of place where you’ll want to order one of everything. A few recommendations: cauliflower drenched in shishito-herb vinaigrette and goat cheese, hamachi with wasabi mayo, Thai fried rice stone pot, Korean fried chicken, red snapper with brown butter-white miso, beef short ribs… We could keep going, but you get the idea, right?

Bradley Kilgore is one of Miami’s top culinary stars. His sophisticated Wynwood eatery, Alter, specializes in artful, chef-driven tasting menus. The James Beard Award nominee’s daring dishes change seasonally and include items like snapper sashimi with feta, labneh, cucumber, kaffir lime and chili vinegar, as well as duck breast cured with sake and grilled over pine cones. It’s a one-of-a-kind culinary experience that should be on the top of every serious foodie’s list. The adjacent Bar Alter is a stylish and laid back venue for cocktails made with the same level of precision and creativity as Kilgore’s dishes. It boasts a bar menu that includes a “krispy” chicken sandwich and umami balls made of fried brioche.

Wynwood Kitchen & Bar is arguably responsible for putting Wynwood on the map when it opened back in 2009. Founded by Wynwood’s developer, the late Tony Goldman, the restaurant is adjacent to Wynwood Walls, his outdoor museum dedicated to street art. The complex draws thousands of visitors every day perusing the latest works by an international cadre of muralists. Los Angeles-based artist Shepard Fairey is an original collaborator and also designed the interiors of the restaurant. Here, you can dine inside or on a patio overlooking the Walls and indulge in pan-Latin small plates ranging from empanadas to flautas, as well as creative craft cocktails.

Seeing the word “tapas” on a menu is almost as common as hearing “dale” in the Magic City — it happens more often than it should. And while there are plenty of middle-of-the-line, traditional Spanish restaurants in this town, the gem of the bunch is NIU Kitchen. Tucked away in Downtown Miami, this 26-seat restaurant showcases Catalan cuisine by Barcelona native Deme Lomas the way it should be: simple, light, flavorful, and fun. The plates and menu rotate frequently, but the cold tomato soup with mustard ice cream, the truffle- and egg-filled potato foam, and the tartare can’t be missed.
