The Vasa is the only preserved seventeenth-century ship in the world and a unique art treasure. More than 95 percent of the ship is original, and it is decorated with hundreds of carved sculptures. The 69 meter-long warship Vasa sank on its maiden voyage in the middle of Stockholm in 1628 and was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. For nearly half a century the ship has been slowly, deliberately and painstakingly restored to a state approaching its original glory. The three masts on the roof outside the specially built museum show the height of the ship's original masts. Today the Vasa Museum is the most visited museum in Scandinavia, with over one million visitors a year.

Palaces don’t come much bigger than the baroque Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet) in Stockholm, which is a 600-room royal residence, place of work and cultural/historical treasure. Old Town (Gamla Stan), the area around the palace, is one of the best preserved medieval city centres anywhere. The city was founded here in 1252 and you should go here for Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan), the tight, winding, cobblestone streets, gorgeous leafy squares, Sweden’s narrowest alley at Mårten Trotzigs gränd, and an eclectic mix of cafés, bars and souvenir shops.

Drottningholms Slottsteater was built in 1766 at the request of Queen Lovisa Ulrika. The theatre is constructed of simple materials and the auditorium is playfully decorated using paint, stucco, and papier mâché. The wooden stage machinery is operated by hand. It includes wind, thunder and cloud machines, as well as traps and moving waves. About 30 stage sets have been preserved, all decorated with themes from 18th century repertoire. In 1991 the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO designated the theatre, together with Drottningholm Palace, the Chinese Pavilion and the surrounding park, as being of international cultural heritage significance. Today the theatre offers new productions of 17th and 18th century operas and attracts audiences from all over the world every summer. Since 1979 the Drottningholm Theatre Orchestra has performed on period instruments, and the repertoire includes works by Haydn, Handel, Gluck and Mozart, as well as Rameau and Monteverdi.

Restaurants and Bars you must visit
If you are a lover of the Italian kitchen, this is the place for you! The inspiration for Il Tempo comes from the Little Italy of the 80s and 90s and the classic restaurant Gino's. This is an interpretation of rustic Italian cuisine - via New York. They have a large collection of Italian wines, they knead the pasta daily here on site and bake Neapolitan pizzas in the wood oven in the middle of the restaurant.

A historical place since 1929. Their Swedish meatballs are a classic that most Stockholmers know and have enjoyed at some point. The fried Baltic herring with mashed potatoes has been on the menu since Tranan opened. The menu otherwise varies according to the seasonal ingredients to create really good home cooking both for the passer by and for the entire family dinner. The Bar Already in the thirties, the regulars called Tranan "the club". Today's basement bar was, at the start in 1929, a finer dining room with soft carpets and a trio with cello, piano and violin that entertained the guests with restaurant music. The tradition of music in the basement has been kept alive. Among the artists who have given concerts downstairs in Tranan's bar are:Tom Waits, Lloyd Cole, Lyle Lovett, Digital Underground (with a young Tupac Shakur), A Tribe Called Quest, Craig David and A Camp.
