Food Scene

The food is really excellent-modern greek cuisine, very welcoming atmosphere and it is not touristy at all. One of the best restaurants in Kolonaki!

One of my favourite cafes in Plaka, with its tables on the steps rather than a street, on your way to the Acropolis. They also do light food. It is just a genuinely pretty spot for a coffee break. It gets very busy in warm days, very good for 'people watching'.

The historic cafe of Dexameni on the square, pictures of which you can find in the gallery. Across the street from the house. A very good choice if you have kids, as there is a playground on the square. Its always very busy. In the summer it stays open until 1-2am so if you are hungry late at night this is the best option in the area.

Parks & Nature

It is not exactly a park, given that Athens is not known for its parks, it is more of a hill in the middle of Athens. You often see people practicing yoga and the like. Very peaceful place with stunning views at certain secret spots.

The most historic hill of Athens, right above the apartment. You can hike to the top through beautiful trails in the woods, you can also drive up or take the cable car if you don't feel like hiking. The 360 view from the top is breathless, you can see the whole of Athens extending all the way to the sea and the Parthenon.

Sightseeing

The 'Tower of Winds' is an octagonal Pentelic marble clocktower from the Roman Agora that used to functione as a timepiece. This is not a must see in Athens but I personally love this piece of history. And it is just below Plaka, where you can find a wealth of little shops, cafes and restaurants.

Essentials

A high quality grocery store, a bit pricey but you can definitely tell the difference. Organic products and many vegetarian options.

Entertainment & Activities

Open-air cinema on Dexameni square, right below the apartment. If you are a cinema person, I would definitely recommend this one.

Open air cinema in Plaka, on a terrace with the Parthenon literally in your face. Not very good if you really want to concentrate on the movie, the view wont let you. Even nicer if you catch a full moon.

Arts & Culture

Do not miss the opportunity to watch a performance (music, dance or play) at this theatre, which was built in 161 AD. It will be an experience you will not regret.

The Byzantine and Christian Museum exhibits over 25,000 religious artefacts of the Early Christian, Byzantine, Medieval, post-Byzantine and later periods. The artefacts date from between the 3rd and 20th century AD, and their provenance encompasses the entire Greek world, as well as regions in which Hellenism flourished. It also has a very nice cafe overlooking a small ancient theatre which has been conserved and I believe is now accessible to the public. (The address is wrong on the AirBnB map; it is 22 Leoforos Vasilissis Sofias, Athina 106 75, its a 10 min walk from the apartment.
