An arboretum 5 minutes drive from Collingwood. Take any number of tracks through the trees and come to the beach. From there - you can walk all the way back to Collingwood along the beach or swim in the Quay for some of the best swimming in the bay at low tide.

1891-1901 Takaka-Collingwood HwyAn arboretum 5 minutes drive from Collingwood. Take any number of tracks through the trees and come to the beach. From there - you can walk all the way back to Collingwood along the beach or swim in the Quay for some of the best swimming in the bay at low tide.
An amazing shore-scape with views back across the Bay and sometimes you can see Kāpiti Island on a clear day. Many shorebirds nest here. You can walk up to 2 kms along the spit. If you'd like to go all the way - book a trip with Farewell Spit Eco-tours - it takes about 5-6 hours.
