Joshua Tree National Park
If you are here for Joshua Tree NP then you have come to the right place. It is a short 15-minute drive to the Joshua Tree Park West Entrance as well as the Black Rock Nature Center. There are also hikes you can go on and explore right outside the door of the home. South Park is a section of the park that you can take hikes into the National Park, which is just a block away south of San Andreas Rd.
Our recommended Hikes:
Split Rock Loop Trail: It is very near the park entrance. It is a nice easy family friendly two-mile hike with spectacular views.
Skull Rock Nature Trail: Just a few hundred feet from Split rock. You can find a giant rock that resembles a human skull. What is even better is the 1.7-mile trail. You can get lost into rocks and feel like you are in a Star Wars movie or an old Western.
Hidden Valley Trail: One of the most spectacular 1-mile trails you will ever take. Its surrounded by massive boulders.
Barker Dam: A nice easy 1.3-mile hike that is great for kids. On this trail, you will also find ancient petroglyphs from Native Americans.
Cholla Cactus Garden: Approximately 12 miles (20 km) south of the park’s north entrance is the 0.25 mile (0.4 km) Cholla Cactus Garden Nature Trail; this flat loop leads hikers through nearly 10 acres (4 hectares) of landscape dominated by the teddy bear cholla. This is a great please to see either at sunrise or at sunset.
Star Gazing at night: The national park is a great place to see the stars at night. Depending the time of year will determine what time you can see the start. In the winter, you may see full stars as early as 6pm where in the summer you might have to wait until 9pm. You may park you care on any of the B marked locations on our park map provided to you by the national park service upon entry. Our favorite place to star gaze is at Pine City. It is where Desert Valley Rd and Desert Queen Mine Rd meet.
Keys View: Gives you a very nice view over the Coachella Valley.
