Sightseeing

The sportsman in Lodge Moor is a 5min drive from the property. There you will be met by a warm hearted landlady ( Jill ) and welcoming staff. It’s an extremely friendly place to visit and has great open space outside for sitting in the sun. Behind the pub you will find a wooded area and if you decide to have a wonder you will find the remains of the prison of war camp used in World War II. We think it’s a must while visiting.

Riverlin Valley Trail is a 5 minute drive from the property. Starting from malin bridge enter the nature trail from the mouse hole and follow it passed an old mill pond to where you can split and go left by the next dam or right and cross the stepping stones, then onto rivelin park and across the bridge and follow the path to the s bends, cross the road and continue along the path passing old mill ponds and structures from an industry long gone, keep going and eventually you’ll come to the old post office which is the end of the nature trail, about 3-4 miles from here you’ve endless choices of where to go Hope this helps anyone interested Not suitable for infirm, pushchairs or wheelchairs in places due to the ground conditions. After heavy rain the river does cover the stones.

The reservoirs are a 10 min drive from the property and definitely worth a visit. There are two pubs located near them, The Three Merry lads and The sportsman if you’d like to pop in for a drink or food after strolling round the reservoirs. The area is popular with walkers and bird watchers. Adjacent to the Middle Reservoir is Hammond's Field Nature Reserve, which is managed by The Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham. A path, the Long Causeway leads from the Upper reservoir, onto the moors to Stanedge Pole and then onto Stanage Edge. This route was once thought to be a Roman road but is now thought to be a Medieval packhorse saltway, used to convey salt from Cheshire to Yorkshire.
