San Juan del Sur is a unique and vibrant town on Nicaragua’s southwest coast with a string of surfing beaches along the Pacific. From town you can admire the contemporary Christ of the Mercy statue that stands on a cliff above the bay - or hike to the view point and see the bay from above in all it's glory. Take a zipline excursion through the jungle, take surfing lessons, to familiar with the olive ridley turtles breed at La Flor Nature Reserve, enjoy a cocktail on the beach and visit the local market. The people are friendly and welcoming.

A local favorite surfing beach near San Juan del Sur that is about a 20-30 minute drive from town; shuttles are very frequent and cheap at about $7 USD.
note: The SJDS beach in town doesn’t get great waves, and as such, isn’t the most ideal spot for surfing - so going to a local surf beach is a must.

Hike through the "cloud forest" trails along this volcano - local tour guides from Cafe Las Fores are the best hosts. You'll get spectacular views of the jungle, flowers and local wildlife. Recommend to take the "longer" excursion/route option if you have time.

From a day trip to an overnight stay, Granada is worth a visit - historical buildings and bustling culture all around. We recommend walking the city starting in the city-center and exploring down to the waterfront. Beautiful churches, colonial architecture, and friendly people.
