This will require some planning on your part because it's open Wed thru Sat and for lunch. The line will start before 11am... yes, I said a LINE...like out the door. And the only complainers are those who've not yet tasted this beef that is more like candy. You'll thank me later. They do have a second location within United Market Street at 114th & Slide with more available open hours but I’ve not personally found it as tasty there. Prioritize the quick drive west to Wolfforth for the original.

If you are looking for a distinct atmosphere - a bit off the grid - Cagle Steaks is for you. Set in a "Gunsmoke-like little street scape, it's Instagram worthy and the food is great too. Only ribeyes though - no filets, etc - just ribeyes you order by the inch-thickness.

It’s the newest of the higher-budget, fine dining eateries in Lubbock - lunch and dinner. It’s a beautiful facility and charming atmosphere.

Ranked #1 public course in Texas (links-style) and home of the top-ranked Red Raider golf program
A links style course. You’ll be amazed at the terrain created from an otherwise flat once-cotton field.

Just about an hour's drive SE of Lubbock (Justiceburg, TX), it's our best fishing and water sports recreation area. If you go, plan to have a burger and vanilla shake at Holly's Drive-in on the way (Post, TX)

Not all of West Texas is flat. Just a few minutes west of Lubbock on 50th St is Ransom Canyon, a small community of homes scattered around a small lake. It's a picturesque spot with lot's of history connected to the Comanche Indian nation who presumably used the area to hold captives for "ransom." For history buffs, I recommend "Empire of the Summer Moon" by S.C. Gwynne which details the Comanche's influence over much of West Texas

Driving the Hub City

Lubbock is a “drive a car” city as things are really spread out. Yet, it’s set on a grid with 5-7 lane roads each mile so getting around really quick and simplistic. Streets are numbered (north to south) as well as alphabetical (east to west) with very few exceptions. You can get anywhere <20 min and there is no true “rush hour.” Warning: your GPS may fail you with addresses containing rural County Road or Farm-to-Market names.

“If you don’t like the weather just wait 15 min and it will change.” The adage is true - It can change quickly here. Summer evenings can be mountain-cool and temperatures can range wildly in all seasons
