“The Castle (Kastro) of Naxos, Cyclades: The Castle of Naxos Town along with the Tower of Glezos serves as a protective shield to the impregnable fortress of Sanoudos in Chora of Naxos, and was originally built under the supervision of Markos II Sanoudos (the Venetian conqueror after whom it was named), who came along with the establishment of Frank sovereignty in the Aegean in 1207. Around the Castle area and streets you can find traditional taverns-restaurants with amazing food.”

“Take the time to spend an hour or two at the Archaeological Museum of Naxos (tel. +30 22850 22725) and go back thousands of centuries by viewing items and artifacts left behind from civilizations that lived on Naxos and nearby islands from as far back as the late Neolithic period to Early Christian times. The Archaeological museum itself, declared an historical monument, is part of the Naxos’s interesting and varied history. Housed in a building that is part of the Venetian Castle, or, as is known on the island as “inside the walls” of the Kastro district, the Archaeological museum is testament to the continued utilization of the castle. ”

“In Pyrgos village of Tinos,a small thematic museum, where the marble technology is presented.Tinos is the most important modern Greek marble center. The small but extraordinary aesthetic and contemporary concept of this Marble Craft Museum comes to highlight and depict the social and economic context in which the local marble workshops were developed, while being a small but precious jewel for the island. Visitor has the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditional techniques and procedures related to the extraction, first processing and transportation of the marble, then the shaping and placement of the construction. It tracks the entire path from raw material to complete work! Amazing”

“ One of the most important museums of Greece is the spectacular Museum of Prehistoric Thera that lies in the capital of Santorini, Fira. It is housed in a state-of-the-art, two-story building whose erection started in the beginning of the 1970s and it was finally offered to the public in 2000. The finds that are on display on the Prehistoric Museum of Thera come from the various excavations that were carried out on the island, such as at the settlements of Akrotiri and Potamos, rescue excavations at different sites on the island as well as some objects that were discovered by chance or handed over.”

“The Archeological Museum of Paros can be found behind Panagia Ekatontapyliani in Parikia. Its collections date from the Neolithic period to early Christianity. Even though this is not a big museum it includes some important exhibits, like the 6th century BC marble statue of Gorgon, the 490BC colossal worship statue of Artemis, and a neolithic figurine of a woman sitting with crossed legs with her hands under her chest. Housed in the Church of Ekatontapiliani, the Byzantine Museum of Parikia exhibits a collection of rare and valuable icons, various religious relics and other ecclesiastical items dating from the post-Byzantine period.”

“ An extraordinary and very interesting museum lies in the center of Fira, the capital of Santorini, very close to the cable car. The Archaeological Museum of Thera is a very educational small gem that offers an insight into the island’s past and proves how sophisticated the civilizations that preceded us were. The Archaeological Museum is a great place for those who are interested in other cultures and wish to become acquainted with the history of Santorini. There are three main collections on display ‒ sculpture from the Archaic to the Roman Period, inscriptions dating from the Archaic to the Roman Period as well as vases and clay figurines from the Geometric to the Hellenistic Periods.”

“The excavations at Akrotiri have uncovered one of the most important prehistoric settlements of the Aegean. The settlement was destroyed in the Theran eruption about 1627 BC and buried in volcanic ash, which preserved the remains of fine frescoes and many objects and artworks. ”

“Exploring the well-preserved house – Giannoulis Chalepas museum a sense is created that Giannoulis has just left from his house though it’s been more than 70 years since he “left”. His clothes hanging on the hook, his personal belongings, his bedroom, his workshop, they all carry memories of the period (1902-1930) when the famous Greek sculptor lived in Pyrgos. His mind was frequently leading him into dangerous territories; Yet, without ever managing to limit his creativity. Some of the major projects of Chalepas, sketches and photographs complement the precious material of the museum General entrance: 3 Euros, Reduced: 1,5 Euros (common for Tinian Artists Museum, Pyrgos)”

“The main aim of the Museum is to promote awareness of Costas Tsoclis’s work, so that the general public can be brought into contact with contemporary art. The Museum holds a complete archive of the artist’s works, and television programmes dedicated to his thought and work will be shown daily in a special viewing room. Each year the exhibit in one of the three areas of the Museum will be replaced with another work or works from a different period of Tsoclis’s development, and the exhibits in the other two areas will remain the same, thus ensuring continuity of the Museum’s character while maintaining visitors’ interest by an ever – changing overall exhibition.”
