“Just a bit further into the mountains from Bukchon Hanok Village, Samcheong Park has perfect running trails. Follow the Seoul Seonggwak-gil, a trail along an ancient fort, and you’ll reach the Malbawi Observatory, which has great views of Seoul. Samcheong Park is open throughout the year, but Malbawi Observatory closes at 6pm in the summer and at 5pm in the winter. ”

“Right next to Gyeongbokgung Palace, where the Joseon dynasty kings lived, there’s a handful of small galleries. Hakgojae is one I always visit. I love the traditional Korean Hanok exterior and the fact that it always shows artists who are renowned in their field, whether that’s calligraphy, sculpture, or multimedia. Unlike most galleries and museums in Seoul, Hakgojae forbids photography, even without the flash. ”

“This set of shops was founded in 1983, when metal craft was still rare in Seoul. It’s run by six sisters of the Hong family. Each plays a different role, such as making tea or arranging flowers for the shop. I recommend their bigger second store, which showcases their metal craftworks in a four-story building. Their works are often inspired by animals, plants, and natural elements, so they often call their collection a zoo. It is displayed on the walls but sometimes on the wooden table in the middle where you can have a cup of tea.”

“한옥음식점에서 편안하게 한식으로 식사를 하거나 파전에 막걸리를 먹어볼 수 있는 프렌차이즈 음식점. 가격도 그리 높지않고 무한셀프의 반찬들이 특색이 있음. ”
