Kasteel
“Castillo San Felipe del Morro, also known as El Morro, sits atop a high promontory overlooking the entrance to the San Juan Bay. It is the result of the efforts of Spanish engineers over a period of more than 250 years and is one of the largest fortifications built by the Spain in the Caribbean. Although its foundation was laid in 1539, the six-level fortification was not considered complete until 1787. During World War II, the U.S. government added an artillery fire control station. El Morro suffered several attacks from the English in 1595 and 1598 and the Dutch in 1625. In 1898, during the Spanish-American War, United States Navy ships fired upon the fortification, destroying the lighthouse, which was later restored. Visit casemates and the chapel. Gaze over 60 foot walls to the ocean and aim your camera on the cannons and that still guard the harbor today. Stroll on the lawn where soldiers once marched and watch kites flying in the afternoon trade winds.”

Cocktailbar

“La Factoria has twice been named as one of the top 50 bars in the world. The main bar, which is how la Factoria started, has three other smaller, more intimate bars behind it; VINO, Shing a Ling and El Final. The bar staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their craft so drinks are made with a high level of expertise. Their refreshing signature drinks include the lavender mule (a ginger beer, lavender and vodka mix) and ginger tropical spritzer (a ginger ale, white wine, passion fruit, campari and cointreau concoction).”

Housing Development
“The city of Old San Juan was founded in 1521 by Spanish settlers. The first fortification, La Fortaleza (The Fortress), began construction in 1533 and currently serves as the governor's mansion. Castillo San Felipe del Morro, or El Morro for short, was the second fort built on the islet of what is now Old San Juan and Puerta de Tierra. El Morro's construction commenced in 1539 and finished in 1790; during those 250 years El Morro went from a promontory mounted with a cannon to a six-level fortress designed to unnerve attackers approaching from sea.”

“Really good rustic-artisanal pizza especially for those who like thin crust pizza. All made on artisanal oven with fresh ingredients. Curiously, this place also have one of the best Mexican tacos in the city. This is definitely a nice stop on your way back home after a day on the beach. Good drinks, not super pricey, and friendly staff!”

Mexicaans restaurant
“A sign at the front announces what you won’t find here: lettuce, melted cheese, hard taco shells, burritos, or anything close to Tex-Mex. The specialties are made-to-order tacos prepared with soft corn tortillas, made fresh daily. The all-stars are the tacos al pastor, sliced al momento from the doner-style spit in the main dining room. Get there early, though, because they tend to run out quickly. (Pork belly, cochinita pibil, tongue, and barbacoa all come a close second if the al pastor runs out.) Pair your taco with an agua fresca, horchata, michelada, or margarita. Save some room for a slice of the fantastic Key lime pie.”
