“Penola is a special place, where Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods co-founded the uniquely Australian Sisters of St Joseph in 1866. Our friendly volunteers will welcome you in the Interpretive Centre, which houses the MacKillop and Woods exhibitions, the research room, and the shop. In the Schoolhouse there is an exhibition on Josephite education and displays in the living areas. St Joseph’s Church, with its Shrine to Mary, the Old Convent and the early Cameron Home are also on site. The Mary MacKillop Stable School Park is in Penola and the Father Woods Sculpture Park is north of Coonawarra.”

“This is a great place for a half day visit. You can obtain a key from the Port Lincoln Visitors Centre as the kiosk is not always open. There are a multitude of tracks and sight seeing spots. Be careful of waves and obey warning signs not to climb on rocks which may be subject to freak waves. Take a jacket as this area can be wild and windy!”

Wandelpad
“Great for hiking, can continue on up to the top of Mt Lofty, which gives great City views & along the whole coastline. There is a cafe & souvenir shop at Mt Lofty, so you can have a stop & treat yourself to a snack/ meal before heading back down. A 2 hour round trip, plus time spent at Mt Lofty. Is a bit of a climb but could just do the walk to the waterfall if time or energy is lacking. Note that the waterfall flow depends on rainfall & time of year.”

“These beautiful grounds are open to the public for picnics and to just enjoy looking at. the Lovely home has tours the 3rd week of the moneth, or if you have a gorup, they will do a special tour for you by arrangement. they also have a function room where they hold events. In one room there is a huge picture of the first landing in Adelaide. Cummin's House and the land around, including most of the suburb of Morphettville once belonged to the Morphett family. He was the son of a lawyer in the U.K . and had first pick of the land he wanted here . Mr Morphett also had some involvement in politics and was very active in the community. The land was slowly sold off by the family and now we can still enjoy touring the lovely original home.”

“its fantastic for families with young ones! Let the kiddies run around in the underwater cave area with books, things to do and touch and feel. There is even a cave for them to explore. Mums and dads can grab a coffee while the kids are having a ball. The whole area is fabulous, the cave gardens and the main corner , there is so much to see and do. Make sure you visit the main corner and go and watch the volcano movie that funs every day for free. Fascinating stuff and lets you know about how mount gambier is so unique.”
