“Walnut Canyon National Monument, only 10 miles (16km) east from Flagstaff along I-40, contains about 25 cliff-dwelling rooms constructed by the Sinagua people in the 13th century along a 1 ½ mile (2400m) loop trail. (Warning: there is a stairway of some 240 steps to get into and out of the canyon; if this is too strenuous, there is also a rim trail). ”

“Fatman’s Loop Trail aka Mount Elden Hike is my favorite hike in Flagstaff. Great views and scenery. Can go as far up the mountain as you’d like. I usually go about half way up.”

“Excellent views, steep climb to the towers. Really cool Alligator Juniper, boulders, cacti, evergreens...nice varied terrain, but a real heartache climb. Use caution if you have a heart condition. It's a very popular trail so if you want more solitude go EARLY.”
