There are two units in the loft of the beautifully restored 1920s barn. The Buffalo Suite is located on the East side of the building providing guests with lovely views of the Wallowa Valley. The barn is part of a 200-acre ranch ideally located 3-miles from the picturesque city of Joseph and 5 miles from the crystal-clear waters of Wallowa Lake. Leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind and come relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of Hurricane Creek Ranch.

De ruimte
The loft was recently built and is definitely a unique and quality living space. Because the suite is relatively new and our guests have been wonderful, most everything still looks brand new. The Buffalo Suite is located on the East side of the barn and provides views which showcase hayfields, corrals, the ranch house, and the foothills of Chief Joseph Mountain. At certain times of the year, you may even spot elk through your windows.

You will enjoy the wide-open living area with its high ceiling, rustic beams, buffalo head mount, large ceiling fans, wall-mounted electric fireplace, and high-quality furniture. The kitchenette is accented with a beautiful granite countertop and a lenga wood table with stools that swivel. The well-built table looks as if it came out of a 1920s cafeteria. The rustic yet beautiful bathroom includes a multicolored slate-lined shower, two sinks nestled in a lovely granite countertop, and a large mirror built from local reclaimed barn lumber. The bedroom has a handsome and well-built queen-size platform bed with a memory foam mattress.

Hurricane Creek runs through the back of the mile-long property. When cattle are not grazing in the back pasture, the creek is a favorite hiking destination. Because the property is located near the Wallowa Wilderness hikers could potentially encounter a cougar or even wolves. However, they are much more likely to spot red fox, skunk, marmot, coyote, mule deer, turkey, white-tailed deer, bald eagles, red-tailed hawk, or elk.

It’s important to check with the host before hiking on the property. All activities on the ranch are at the risk of the participant. The ranch is not responsible for accidents or injuries.

Joseph, Oregon, Verenigde Staten

While there is much serenity to savor at the ranch, your day may be interrupted by the sound of farm animals or machinery. I should warn you that it can be a bit unnerving to hear a bull bellowing for the first time.

The ranch is cradled on two sides by immense mountains with peaks that are covered in snow for most of the year. If you are looking for lodging close to Wallowa Lake and the charming city of Joseph, but away from all the hustle and bustle of summer tourism, look no further

THE EXTENDED NEIGHBORHOOD/THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA

Joseph is quite picturesque with its numerous bronze statues and western style store fronts set off by a backdrop of spectacular Mountains. The city offers outstanding restaurants, boutiques, galleries, a bronze foundry, a chocolate shop, a bakery, a distillery, summer concerts and a PRA rodeo where every seat is a good seat.

Enterprise, another interesting small town is simply an eight-mile drive from the ranch. The city has revamped itself over the years with bronze foundries, two delightful bakeries, a 9-hole golf course, and several restaurants including the famous Terminal Gravity Brewery, and The Red Rooster Café a local favorite.

It's a 5-mile drive from the ranch to Wallowa Lake, a lake cradled by majestic mountains and high moraines. World record Kokanee have been caught in the 8-mile-long, 300-foot-deep Lake. Rainbow trout fishing is a popular activity in the shallower waters. Wallow Lake Marina typically offers paddle boards, paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, row boats, and motorboats for rent.

Other outdoor favorite adventures include the Wallowa Lake tramway to the Summit of Mount Howard and fly fishing on one of the valley’s peaceful winding rivers.

Many of our guests have enjoyed stopping at the gravesite of Old Chief Joseph, wondering along the trails at Iwetamlaykin State Heritage Site, and the Joseph Branch Railrider trips along the historic Wallow Railroad. Winding Waters Rivers Expeditions offers single or multi-day guided whitewater rafting trips on several rivers: the Salmon, the Snake through Hells Canyon, and the Grand Ronde. It’s a good idea to book the commercial adventures well ahead of time.

Hurricane Creek Trailhead is a popular starting point for hikers--it leads deep into the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The trailhead is also the starting point for a 4-mile hike to LeGore Lake, the highest true lake in Oregon at 8,950 feet. The trail is lightly traveled so a map is recommended. The lake is stocked with fish and is a favorite hiking destination of your host.

Ice Lake, (elevation - 7,900 feet) is a popular hiking destination offering incredible views. The lake acts as the basecamp for hikers climbing the Matterhorn and is a 16-mile round trip journey over meandering creeks and past lovely waterfalls. Not an easy hike but spectacular if you are a seasoned alpine hiker. Once again, a map is recommended-many wilderness trails are not well marked.
