De ruimte
*COVID NOTE: We are adhering carefully to COVID-19 cleaning protocols (read more on AirBnB's site or inquire) and blocking a minimum of one full day between bookings. To ensure safety and wellness we request that guests comply with MA state visitor restrictions and are not symptomatic before arriving. We limit guests to families of 4 or parties of 4 adults, and kindly request that you do not host visitors during your stay.

The Schoolhouse is a restored (and expanded) 19th-century property that has served as a tavern, a tack shop, and a one-room schoolhouse. A bucolic country setting in a rare location, midway between the Williams College campus and the slopes of Jiminy Peak and just 20 minutes from world-class cultural institutions like Mass MoCA and the Clark Art Institute, both currently open for timed entry (advance reservations only). We're happy to provide recs on these and other nearby attractions like the Norman Rockwell Museum, Art Omi, and the summer home where Herman Melville penned Moby Dick (recently featured in the NY Times). Spacious and private, the Schoolhouse offers everything you need to cook in and kick back, including WiFi, Roku TV, movies, lawn games (corn hole or croquet anyone?), and a private patio with mountain views. Upstairs, the airy and spacious loft has a fully equipped galley kitchen with a range/oven, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and cookware. There's also a roomy dining area with vintage Thonet chairs. At the other end of the loft is a large, open space with 2 twin beds and floor-to-ceiling windows that open to stunning mountain views.

Location is everything in the Berkshires, and right from our door you can stroll across a meadow, hike along a mountain stream, cycle through scenic farmland (or along the 12-mile Ashuwillticook Rail Trail in nearby Adams). Or drive 20 minutes to MassMoCA and North Adams for an afternoon of art, followed by craft beer at Bright Ideas Brewing.

We welcome you to kick back and relax at our historic country retreat!

Toegang voor gasten
Please note that while the Schoolhouse is completely private and has a separate entrance, the space is connected to our private home where we reside full-time. Guests have use of an outdoor patio with a picnic table and charcoal grill that overlooks the mountains. There is also a campfire pit and we provide wood and Adirondack chairs for guests to enjoy.

Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
We are following strict CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting the space, and you will have your own private entrance so no one else will be touching handles or entering your space.

We love to walk the wooded trails at Field Farm, managed by the Trustees of Reservations, or go for a morning run along Oblong Road, with views of Mt. Greylock and the Hopper. Another favorite walk/hike is a loop around historic Mt. Hope Farm, just off Route 43 in Williamstown. If you're craving a latte, Tunnel City Coffee in Williamstown serves coffee, pastries and sandwiches 7 days a week, or enjoy farm-to-table breakfast/brunch fare at The Break Room at Greylock Works in North Adams (open Thurs-Sun, 8-3). You can also pick up milk, eggs, and local cheese from nearby Cricket Creek Farm. Just 15-minutes southwest, you can cross the NY border into New Lebanon for brunch or lunch at Blueberry Hill Cafe, a regional destination. For happy hour cocktails, we love the bar at Mezze (Williamstown) and the Airport Rooms (hipster spot next to Tourists in North Adams, temporarily closed). The new Williams Inn (Williamstown) boasts a spacious bar and restaurant and the Back Bar at Hot Tomatoes pizza is a hidden gem, serving beer and wine and al fresco dining by the river, weather permitting. If you're visiting MassMoCA, a beer at Bright Ideas Brewing is the perfect wind-down after a day of wandering the galleries, followed by delicious pub fare at PUBLIC. NOTE: Some venues listed may be temporarily closed or offering limited options due to COVID-19, so check in advance.

My wife and I are globe trekkers but the Berkshires is our happy place. We love art, live music, craft beers (and inventive cocktails), and hill climbing with our terrier.

Our house guide is loaded with local finds and tips for nearby dining, cafes, breweries, wineries, country walks and breathtaking hikes. For the intrepid hiker, there's an unmarked trail right behind our house that crosses a mountain stream and leads up to the Taconic Trail, which straddles the MA/NY border. See "The neighborhood" below for a few of our local faves.
