De ruimte
The perfect place to truly getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life and experience a rejuvenating Hawaiian vacation retreat with your significant other, family or friends. Nestled in romantic, old Hawaii in the quaint and friendly coastal community of Kehena Beach Estates, within walking distance to the exotic, clothing-optional black sand beach you will learn the meaning of relaxation. Awake to the soothing sounds of the ocean, nature’s music night and day. This custom home was designed to take advantage of the prevailing trade winds, which provides comfortable temperatures throughout the day and evening all year round. The open floor plan and many windows frame the tropical treetop views and even slices of ocean views pop out between the trees from the upper lanais. Mature tropical landscaping grows all around with specimen bamboo, plumeria, avocado, palms, banana, citrus and ginger - please feel free to enjoy some fresh produce from the garden! Environmentalists will appreciate the water catchment system and solar water heating that service the entire property. For the techies out there, we provide desks and chairs, WIFI, fax/scanner/printer, cell booster, Roku on each floor's TV for streaming video like Netflix or Amazon and the bonus USB plugs throughout. The Hawaiian style layout and separate entrances allow for privacy or group entertaining for families and friends alike. Meander through the indoor and outdoor spaces including two separate living areas, lounge in a hammock on either of the two main lanais, enjoy a backyard shower on the lower most lanai, gaze over the front yard on the Juliette balcony in the honeymoon suite or climb the spiral staircase to impressive 360 degree views from the stargazing upper most deck.

Experience penthouse living in the upper unit featuring an open floor plan, perfect for couples, honeymooners or young families. Walk into your living room and choose to lounge on the chaise, enjoy stunning views from the papasan or kick back in the ratan recliner to watch your favourite show. Cook a gourmet meal in the well-equipped kitchen with new GE & Samsung stainless steel appliances and serve it on the lanai after opening the fully retractable screen and glass doors. Relax in the large soaking tub or rinse off in the open shower before retiring to your king-sized four poster bed with sheers billowing in the breeze after stargazing on the upper lanai.

Larger groups will enjoy choosing between one of the 2 Queen bedrooms on the second level or who gets the sleeper couch. Serve up a delicious breakfast for 6 at the expansive breakfast bar. Relax in the living room with cocktails or settle in for some game or TV time. Sneak away from the group and enjoy a peaceful nap on the hammock on the covered lanai.

Note: Our home has two entrances & kitchens (one on each floor). We have it available as separate listings: the entire top studio ( #KehenaBeachPenthouse ) and the entire middle 2 bedroom ( #KehenaBeachMezzanine ), and this listing is both: the entire house ( #KehenaBeachTreehouse ) . The bottom floor is a locked basement used for the catchment (water) and storage with no guest access.

Waar je zult verblijven

Pāhoa, Hawaï, Verenigde Staten

Kehena Beach Estates is a family friendly neighborhood. The property is a short stroll from the black sand beach & boasts access to a number of outdoor activities & unique festival like Sunday Drum Circle. Kaimu Beach Park, MacKenzie State Recreation Area, Isaac Hale Beach Park, new beaches & the 2018 lava flows are a short drive away. Uncle Robert's & Kaimu Corner Store in Kalapana are the closest Bar, Restaurant & Store. Wednesday night & Saturday morning market at Uncle's must not be missed.

First the practical things:

- Grocery Store/Corner Store: the closest is the Kaimu Corner Store. Next closest are Pahoa's Malama Market or Island Naturals.
- Pharmacy: Pahoa Pharmacy or Longs Drugs in Pahoa.
- Neighborhood Restaurant: the nearest is Uncle Robert's in Kalapana. In Pahoa town you will find Kaleo's Bar & Grill and Ning's Thai Cuisine. There are also Pizza places, Paolo's Bistro, etc. In Hilo try Hilo Bay Cafe (New American), Sombat's (Thai) or Kamana Kitchen (Indian).
- Coffee Shop: Sirius Coffee Connection in Pahoa, or brew your own Kona Coffee.
- Nearby Park or Green Space: Besides our Kehena Black Sand Beach there is Kaimu Beach Park, MacKenzie State Recreation Area & Isaac Hale Beach Park.
- Laundromat: Suds 'n Duds Laundromat in Pahoa
- Main Transportation Hub or Bus Stop: There is a bus stop on the main road but the bus doesn't really come by regularly, so we highly recommending renting a car.

Now for the fun stuff:

Not to brag but Hawaii (the Big Island) is the best island. It is so large you can fit all the other islands on it and still have room to spare! This means we have everything the other islands have to offer and a lot more. No wonder the rulers of Hawaii chose this as their home. Where else can you hit up 10 of the 14 climates on Earth all in one day!? Here is a very short list of just some of the things to do:

- Stroll to the clothing optional Kehena Black Sand Beach and if lucky or here during the right season spot sea turtles, spinner dolphins & whales!
- See the 2018 lava flow and the newest black sand beaches in the world at MacKenzie State Park.
- Hike to Isaac Hale and plunge in the new warm pond behind the sand bar and black sand beach by the dock.
- Keep hiking to Pohoiki and see 7 new black sand beaches!
- Have a drink or a bite to eat with the locals at Uncle Robert's or shop at the Wednesday or Saturday night market.
- See the newest land delta on earth with 7 new black sand beachs from the lava flowing into the ocean on a day cruise.
- Visit the only zoo in a rainforest Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo with the famous white Bengal tiger Namaste'.
- See if you can find the sea turtles at Coconut Island, right next to Liliuokalani Park and Gardens.
- Try the best Poke or buy the fresh catch of the day at Suisan Fish Market.
- We have some of the best food here! Try some local favorites like Loco Moco, Manapuas, Musubi, Laulau, go to a luau and have some Kalua pork and Poi!
- Satisfy your sweet tooth at Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory and Big Island Candies in Hilo.
- Shop at what was voted to be America's best farmer's market in Hilo.
- Shop at the even better local secret Sunday Maku'u Farmer's Market.
- Bike to the Papakolea Green Sand Beach. Yes green sand! The only other one is in Guam.
- See the live calderas, vents, and geysers on 2 active volcanoes Kilauea and Mauna Loa at Volcanoes National Park. See Halema'uma'u Crater home of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes.
- Hike to any one of our awe inspiring waterfalls such as the famous 442 foot Akaka Falls or the 80 foot Rainbow Falls.
- Set your eyes upon the breathtaking Waipio Valley (also known as the Valley of the Kings).
- Have a beer at either of the two breweries: Kona Brewing or Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea.
- Did we mention we have some of the best beachest on Earth!? Some of which include Hapuna Beach, Maniniowali Beach, Makalawena Beach, Kauna'oa Bay or Mauna Kea Beach, and Waialea Bay just to name a few.
- Thrill seekers and adventurers will not be disapointed: helicopter tour, parasail, skydive, zipline, boat tours, etc.
- Drive around the island in a day, if that's your jam.
- Learn about Polynesian culture and the rich history of Hawaii at the many Hawaiian cultural sites, museums, and galleries around the island.
- Every month includes festivals or events such as Waimea Ocean Film Festival in January, the Panaewa Stampede Rodeo in February, Kona Brewer's Fest in March, Merrie Monarch festival in early April, Annual Farm Festival at Hamakua Harvest in May, Kamehameha Festival in June, Annual LGBT Pride Parade and Festival in July, 'Ohana Fest in late August, Annual Hawaii Island Festival of Birds in September, Hawaii Yoga Festival in October, Kona Coffee Cultural Festival in November, and all sorts of holiday parades and events in December.
- Paniolos or cowboys can tour Parker Ranch, on horseback if you wish, or even go hunting big game or game birds.
- Shop 'til you drop at Prince Kuhio Plaza, the shopping mall in Hilo or buy that ukulele at Queens' Market Place at Waikoloa Village.
- Or stay in and enjoy the peace and quiet of our neighborhood and it's tropical setting in paradise complete with song birds, 'io (Hawaiian hawk) soaring overhead, the sounds of the ocean, trade winds and sunshine during the day and amazing stargazing at night (with the occasional clouds and rain). Kickback on the hammock, sip on a cocktail, or soak in the sun on the lanai or pick some fruit from the yard (when in season). Slow down and unwind, you are officially on island time. Shaka brah (hang loose) you're in Hawaii! Aloha! \,,,/

Need more inspiration? Not to worry, we have the best guidebook to Hawaii on the coffee table!

My beautiful wife Jenn is from Canada and my name is Kristian, I am from Finland. Jenn is a Linguist and I have a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. We run an online gardening store having given up successful careers in HR & Recruitment and IT Consulting respectively. We met in Oregon, USA through mutual friends and have been together since 1998. We work hard so we can play hard. In our off-time we enjoy traveling, gardening, camping, hiking, chocolate making, grilling and always look forward to First Friday Feasting with our Framily and hosting our friends and family. Our favorite places to travel include India, Jamaica, Hawaii as well as Europe and love to meet new people from around the world for which Airbnb is great. While we enjoy using it for our travels we decided to and are excited to host as well! We will work hard to be super hosts or the best possible guests, whichever may be our role.
