We like to think we are the one of BEST places to stay in Fornalutx. When you read the reviews on our amazing style, facilities, breathtaking surroundings and fantastic location with superb local facilities you will see we try our very hardest to give our guests an OUTSTANDING time in beautiful Fornalutx.

WE VERY QUICKLY WERE AWARDED “SUPERHOST” STATUS!

So Tranquil, so elegant, so lovely to come back to after a full day spent hiking, cycling or sightseeing in the incredible World Heritage Site which is the Tramuntana range. Or take an easy day, wander round the square, look at the upmarket shops, lunch at one of the many restaurants with magnificent views, people-watch with a coffee and fresh orange in the square, explore the maze of cobbled streets and the gorgeous church.

Also ideal for a romantic week away, sharing the delights of this gorgeous village with a loved one!

Whatever you do, you will LOVE the accommodation, you will LOVE the scenery, you will LOVE the ambiance, the people and the food. You will LOVE the climate. You WILL want to come back!

Fornalutx is a beautiful world heritage village, with steps and beautiful cobbled streets rising up slowly above the village. Some of the streets are cobbled and have steps.

The village won the Most beautiful Village in Spain prize!

A car is not absolutely necessary if you are on a trekking or cycling holiday, as the village is self contained. However you may wish to rent a car from Palma airport, or the car rental office in Port Sóller. You can rent a car on a daily basis from Port Sóller at very reasonable rates if you wish to see other parts of the Island.

There are bus/taxi links to Sóller, Port Sóller, Valldemossa, Deià, and Palma, a wooden train from Sóller to Palma and also a wooden tram between Sóller and Port Sóller.

This area is a hiker's and cyclists' paradise. Maps and trail ideas are readily available for hikers, and the routes are well marked on the ground. For cyclists, the road surfaces are superb, the views incredible, and you will see and possibly meet professional cyclists who use this incredible island to practise when the weather is unsuitable in the rest of Europe.

To travel to Sóller, a much larger and busier town at the bottom of the hill, you can either walk via either an easy footpath starting at the cemetery, or a tough footpath involving a steep ascent before descending to the small hamlet of Biniaraix (café/bar and restaurant) by turning right after the first steps and following directions which I will send to everyone that books. After a drink stop and a breather in Biniaraix, you can descend quickly into Sóller with its magnificent cathedral and lively square, maybe take a tram ride to Port de Sóller with its beautiful beach and marina.

If you have a car, you can just drive downhill, passing the left turn to Biniaraix, continuing to follow signs to Sóller centre. (Note parking in Sóller can be difficult. There are several car parks but these fill quickly in season. If you are lucky you may see a free parking space on a road, but if there is a blue line by the side of the road, beware! The blue line indicates either no parking, restricted parking or paid parking, depending on the notices.

My preferred way to go to Sóller by car is to go up the hill 800m to the T junction, turn left and continue to the main road where turn left, then after several roundabouts pass a REPSOL petrol station then near the museum of natural sciences park in a space on the left, many cars park there diagonally but there is always spaces. Then find a road on the same side of the road that goes down into the town.

I HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THREE LOVELY WALKS THAT I DID LAST YEAR AND PLACED THEM AT THE END OF THE “HOUSE MANUAL”. I WROTE THEM AS I WALKED AND AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CHANGES THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED OR ERRORS I MIGHT HAVE MADE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE SUN CREAM AND HAT IN HOT WEATHER, AND ALWAYS TAKE PLENTY OF WATER

I SUGGEST YOU VISIT THE FORNALUTX SUPERMARKET AND PURCHASE ONE OF THE BOOKS THEY STOCK CONTAINING MANY WALKS AND MAPS OF THE TRAMUNTANA RANGE.

Fornalutx, PM, Spanje

In the heart of the Vibrant village of Fornalutx.

Fabulous World Heritage village, lots of lovely nooks and crannies to explore in the cobbled streets.

Centre of village is beautiful square, below church, with cafés, restaurants, shop and post office. There is a bank and several top restaurants and more shops further up the main road.

Although a village / small town, Fornalutx has everything you need. The accommodation is less than 200m from the main square and shopping areas. To reach the square, turn left from the front door, walk to the end of c/Alba, turn right on the main road and you will reach the square in 50m. There are more shops and restaurants a little bit further up the main road, including a great bakery selling home made bread and cakes!

Ideal for hikers, cyclists, or just those who want to spend some time in the most beautiful place I know in Europe.

All-year round excellent Mediterranean climate!

Equidistant to the market town of Sóller, [which has a large square full of cafés / restaurants, a beautiful shopping street (Calle de sa Lluna), and the gorgeous sandy beach and super sea swimming at Port Sóller. There is public transport between Fornalutx-Sóller-Port Sóller (not Sunday!), or it is a very nice hike through the mountain on well marked tracks to either of the two.

You can also hire a bike in either Sóller town or Port Sóller and pedal through the fabulous countryside taking in the stupendous views and culinary delights!

Highlights for most visitors include a ride on the wooden tram between Sóller and the Port, and the scenic ancient train from Sóller to Palma, through stunning scenery, olive groves, lemon and orange fields.... heaven!

If you have a car or bike I heartily recommend the charming towns of Deià and Valldemossa, both within a fabulous hour’s drive. Further afield, I recommend a visit to Pollença, and for the intrepid driver / cyclist a continuation to the northern point of the island, the lighthouse at the rugged outcrop at the north of Cap Formentor.

For cyclists, there is a great ride going vaguely south on the MA10 through Deià then maybe after a visit to lovely Valldemossa, return to the MA10 and continue south to the home of Cycling, Banyalbufar, where groups of cyclists congregate in the cafés. You could then turn inland to Esporles, thence to Palmanyola and left on the MA11, where you will encounter the tunnel, where cycles are not allowed so you must take the old road just before the tunnel for a breathtaking, musclegrinding climb over the mountain on a series of bends to eventually arrive back in Sóller, and a choice of routes to get back to Fornalutx. This is also a great drive, although you have the choice of using the tunnel!

This is just one of many great rides. Cycling is the national sport in Spain and drivers are always very courteous.

If hiking is your game, there are a plethora of walks that start literally on the doorstep. The shop in the Fornalutx main square has many maps and guides for walkers and cyclists.

Hi! I am a friendly English man who loves walking and cycling. I adore the beauty, charm and climate of the hills of the Mallorcan Tramuntana and have purchased a beautiful house in Fornalutx which I use many times a year. Read what Wikipedia says about the area: (Website hidden by Airbnb) The house to rent is in the heart of the village just off the main road and less than 100m from the main square with cafés, restaurant, shops, bank and post office. Fornalutx is a jewel, which has won many awards in Mallorca and is a world heritage site. The village has everything you need for an enjoyable stay, is buzzing with activity but is never crowded or noisy. Fornalutx is THE perfect base for keen walkers and cyclists, and there are many well marked walking trails and excellent minor roads for cycling on. It is very easy to walk from Fornalutx directly through Olivars and tree-lined routes to Sóller, Port Sóller, Mirador de ses Barques, Deìa, and many many more enchanting destinations. The walking is on drystone tracks, quite hilly, and you won't believe the views of sea and country until you see them. With a bike you can also go to the reservoir at Cuber, the beautiful inland towns of Deìa, Valldemossa, Banyalbufar, and any of the many hidden gems in the quiet calas on the sea. Car hire is cheap and easy to arrange. You can hire a car for a day or two to see more of this fabulous island such as Pollença and Cap Formentor in the North, Arta in the centre, Cala Figuera, Porto Petro, Cala D'or in the South. For cycle hire I recommend Tramuntana Tours, an English-run company who have a tremendous range of cycles, and who also lead walks. I have been on many of their walks and all have been absolutely stunning. They have offices in both Port Sóller (Andy) and Sóller centre (Michelle). A very friendly company! The nearest town is Sóller, a 10 minute drive or 15 minutes on the regular bus service. Sóller is a vibrant enchanting town full of life and is based around the spectacular square with its splendid church. Sóller also has a wooden tram service to the nearby Port where there is a fabulous seafront and gorgeous sandy beach; a unique tourist experience not to be missed, and also an ancient wooden train from Sóller station to Palma, the capital, meandering through the olive groves and the orange & lemon farms.
