One-bed, guest apartment with privacy, roominess, functionality, and walkability. KSU Alumni Center, WWI Memorial Stadium, and Student Union are within 2 short blocks. Aggieville, a brief walk away. In the vicinity of Campus South and beyond. Close to popular coffeeshops, restaurants/pubs, shops, museums, and parks on campus, in Aggieville, and downtown.

De ruimte
Cats' Den (the Den) is a spacious one-bedroom basement condo apartment, with a good exposure to natural light in the east and west.

The Den features a large LIVING AREA with a futon (suitable for one individual or a couple), a dresser, a walk-in closet, a dining table/work space with 4 chairs on the wheels, an armchair, a recliner, an ottoman coffee table, a side table, and TV/cable; a sizable BEDROOM with a queen bed, a dresser, a closet, and TV/cable; a well equipped KITCHEN with a 4-cooktop range, a refrigerator, a microwave, cookware, dinnerware, utensils, silverware, a selection of locally roasted (Radina's) coffee and name brand gourmet coffee (Caribou, Starbucks) and Earl Grey/Lady Grey tea in individual bags; BACKYARD with a small vineyard with a patio and a patio with a deck outside the entrance; two ROOFDOP patios; FRONTYARD with trees - Autumn Blaze maple and Yoshino cherry (blooming in spring), and junipers; and OFF STREET PARKING on our driveway (left side). A day time parking garage is a short 2 minute walk from Cats' Den. For public transportation around the town, an ATA bus stop is located across from the Student Union on campus.

Note: A substantial space in the kitchen full refrigerator is stocked with an extra storage for our preserved, pantry food for the time being, which is normally kept in our basement cellar. One of our freezers in the cellar is out of order and a refrigerator is out of space. We apologize for any inconvenience. Let us know in advance should you need to use the entire refrigerator space. We'll empty it prior to your arrival.

The Den's sleeping arrangement is comfortable for two couples (the queen bed and futon each can accommodate one couple). A queen air mattress (pumping needed) accommodates a couple. For 4-5 unrelated people, two sleeping bags are on hand in the living room closet. In the past, Cats’ Den hosted a maximum number of 6 young adults.

Rooftop decks and our back/front/rooftop patios are open to guests at any time during the reasonable hours of the stay. Rooftops are available 8:00AM-11:00PM, and back and front yard patios are available 6:00AM-11:00PM, unless noted otherwise at check-in). City Ordinance requires reasonable level of noise.

Guests' main entrance is located on the back of the house and can be accessed from the back patio/deck, at the top of the driveway. Guests will enjoy a private, KEYLESS, and direct access to the apartment. Using the front entrance is an option, although it is keyed. Outdoor lights are mostly automatic, action-motivated, for safety and energy efficiency.

The Den's living area is functional and comfortable, furnished with a large ceiling-mounted TV, futon, recliner, and an accent chair, as well as a dining table and wheeled chairs.

Privacy screen in the living room: To ensure an additional privacy for the guests sleeping in the living room, a 8-panel, tall shoji screen is placed on the corner of the bedroom. The screen will keep the sleeping guests separated from other activities going on in the dining area and the main entry way. The bedroom has its own wall-mounted TV.

The Den comes with a fully equipped kitchen, furnished with basic dining ware (both ceramic and plastic), stainless silver ware, pots/pans, and utensils, along with trash cans and a recycle bin. Also provided are a coffee maker, electric kettle, French press, espresso maker, ceramic teapot, and a small selection of ground coffee and bagged tea. If you need anything else, just ask. We will do our best to fulfill your needs. If you need extra stuff (including tea, coffee, and snack), let us know.

Trivia: The Vineyard House (the name we created for our new home since we settled down in 2005) previously housed K-State administrators/professors and their families, including the late Frank Hagans, former dean of College of Agriculture (Alumni Center houses his namesake library); Dr. Jerry Frieman, former professor/head of Psychological Sciences; and Dr. James Urban, former professor of Biology, and the late Diane Urban, wife and former university counsel. We've lived here since 2005 and are still loving it. We hope you will enjoy staying under our roof as we are. The Eugene Field Neighborhood has been known to be a coveted residential area for members of the greater K-State family and others.

Welcome to the Den!

Manhattan, Kansas, Verenigde Staten

Cats' Den at the Vineyard House is located close to K-State and east end of the Eugene Field Neighborhood that is lined with old trees, charming homes, Greek Houses, student rental housing, and famous figures (involving Gloria Vanderbilt and Truman Capote). A number of K-State faculty members and administrators, as well as alumni, choose to reside in this neighborhood following their retirement and/or during their tenure on campus.

From Cats' Den, guests can walk to most popular hangout places, shops, pubs/bars, and diners for all types of dining needs - fine, casual, fast food, ethnic, etc. Aggieville shopping/dining/entertainment districts are only 3-5 blocks away from our place. Most eateries on Poyntz and in the Manhattan Marketplace are walkable, if you enjoy walking and are up for a 20-40 minute walk. Driving will get you there in only 3-8 minutes. Manhattan City Park is located in 1 mile and equipped with recreation/sports/entertainment facilities (The Pavilion's indoor/outdoor stage, tennis courts, ballpark, basketball court, swimming pool, rose garden, Old Cabin, summer concert series, ice rink, and more).

City Hall, Riley County District courthouse, Town Center Mall/Cinema, Flint Hills Discovery Center, Sunset Zoo, Manhattan High School West, and Manhattan Christian College are also within a 2-to-9 minute driving distance and 16-to-40 minutes if you opt for walking (the destinations are listed in no particular order).

I've lived in Manhattan, KS, since 2000 and love this growing small-town-feel city with a rural-cosmopolitan ambience and walkability, thanks to housing the vibrant, ambitious, and diverse university community since 1863 and being the county seat of a laid-back, farming country, Riley County, and well-disciplined yet fun-loving Fort Riley Army Community right next door, among all others. I look forward to seeing Little Apple to become more reflective of the idiosyncratic, thoughtful, and intelligent individuals and peoples of KS, the nation, the Americas, and beyond. My husband, Randall, and I decided to open up our spare space in the basement, reserved for our family and friends’ visits, to host folks from anywhere in the world and all walks of life to meet strangers and make new friends, as we are curious about life above and beyond the comfort zone, would love to travel and learn the wisdom from their respective experiences, for we ourselves originally come from two very different backgrounds although with common goals and universal beliefs and values. Randall is from the Coastal Oregon, an OSU Beaver and retired USAF civil engineering officer, while I was born and raised in Gangneung, a city off the Pacific Coast of the Korean Peninsula (aka East Coast of South Korea). I went to college in Seoul, which makes me a Yonsei Eagle. Now we're both frequent travelers and eager students of life in the global village wherever we reside or visit.

Tijdens je verblijf

We observe Airbnb's and CDC's pandemic guidelines for safety. Still, we're flexible, friendly, and interactive, although we're typically hermits. :) We prefer to welcome guests in person at the door during reasonable hours of the day. For late arrivals, we'll say hi some time during your stay when we can catch a glimpse of you or whenever you drop in.

We'll be available for help at any time during the day and night, should emergencies arise. Just knock on the door or phone/text us.

When something smells good and intrigues you, just come on into our kitchen and say something nice to the chef on duty (haha). Randall, my husband, likes to cook, providing his lower back permits. We both like to have our guests take a bite of our food and make a plate for them.
