Pre-pitched tented Accommodation
If camping is what you’re after, then we offer camping with a flair! Our pre-pitched tents offer two single beds or a double bed per tent – depending on your requirements – crisp, clean linen. The accommodation is available on a B&B or D B&B basisAblution facilities are close-by. Some refer to this new trend of glamorous camping as glamping. For us it’s merely an extension of OppiePlaas’s elegance, panache and welcome.
You can also pitch your own tent or park your caravan. Mtwentwe Farm – home to OppiePlaas – somehow offers everything magnificent that the Eastern Cape’s Wild Coast and the Haga Haga countryside specifically offer. And more…
In a setting that could best be described as in equilibrium with nature, the first thing that strikes you upon arrival is the genuineness and sincere hospitality of Niel and Erna Taljaard, owners of this working coastal farm.
NATURE DICTATES THE MOOD
Settle down, and soon you’ll start to wonder whether these folks have managed to create a setting where the landscaping around the homestead extends into nature, or whether it’s actually nature that extends right up to the cosy veranda – OppieStoep – where many a jubilant occasion is celebrated.
A word of advice, though. Those planning to visit at OppiePlaas will have to take into account some extraordinary add-ons which come as part of the deal and, believe it or not, at no extra cost. One of these is the nearness of the lush and green hills close by that form a natural décor. And don’t be surprised by a lone fish eagle soaring in the distance as if keeping watch over what is special for you at that moment.
As if this is not enough, the undulating landscape in the opposite direction could have continued forever, if it wasn’t for the ocean in the distance jealousy insisting to be a part of this picture-perfect panorama.
A PHOTOGRAPHER’S DREAM
If possible, plan your outdoor activities to coincide with the setting of the sun. Observe how the changing light playfully covers the surrounding veld in tints ranging from burnt orange to vivid yellow while the blue sky gradually changes from bright blue to a deep copper. Invite your photographer along to watch this pageant from the farm pond as an observation point. With wild geese graciously floating in the reflection of the setting sun, the camera won’t stop clicking away to capture and embrace the slowly-changing ambiance.
If you’re lucky, watch the full moon covering the surrounding landscape with its soft glow after night-time has fallen. At OppiePlaas we believe that this is to guard over us and to make sure that everything remains in place for the sun to rise to yet another perfect day the next morning.
WHERE YOU’D WANT TO BE
If it’s the pretence and glitter that so many other venues offer that you’re looking for, then perhaps OppiePlaas is not quite the venue for you. If it’s anything else and more that you require, then OppiePlaas is where you’d want to be.
Our farm is a mere 2 km from the Haga Haga Wild Coast resort which offers a safe swimming, beach, rock & surf fishing and a variety of hiking trails.

Waar je zult verblijven

Amatole, Eastern Cape, Zuid-Afrika

Haga Haga, a mere 2 km from OppiePlaas, is a quaint holiday village along the coveted Eastern Cape Wild Coast. It is renowned for its tranquillity and natural beauty.

“One of the villagers told me that when he returned from a long beach walk with his dog, their footprints were still the only ones in the sand – that’s how remote the charming, unspoiled village of Haga Haga is.” (Extract from a recent magazine article.)

Haga Haga has a safe swimming beach along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and a beautiful lagoon. Try your luck at rock and surf fishing while your children collect shells or play in the protected waters of the lagoon. Fancy some golf, a game of tennis or exploring the area on horseback? No problem! These activities too, and more, are available.

A NATURE LOVER’S PARADISE

The village and its immediate surrounds is a declared nature and marine conservancy owing to an abundance of indigenous fauna and flora species. These include, amongst others, the Cape Clawless Otter and the Blue Duiker, Millwood trees, Wild Irises, Gladiolus, Hibiscus and Orchids. More than 300 indigenous wildflower species have been positively identified and many more still requires identification.

If you’re a birdwatcher, then you’ll be fascinated by the abundance of bird life which includes Narina Trogons, Long Crested Eagles, Fish Eagles, Forest Weavers and Woodpeckers, African Black Oyster Catchers, Water Dikkops, Greenshanks, Kingfishers and many Plover species.

See the whales that visit Haga Haga from July to early December and share in the excitement of dolphin-spotting in the azure East Coast waters.

Put on you hiking boots and explore the various hiking trails that traverse the conservancy – the Krantz Garden Walk to Pullins Bay, the Otter Creek Walk and walks to Whale Point and Lagoon Look-Out. Tackle the 10 km trail along the beach to Double Mouth where you can collect pieces of Ming China and carnelian beads washed up from a sunken ship.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS

The village has a hotel, shop, library, a small museum and an excellent library. Other nearby attractions include the Haga Haga Hotel, Miarestate Game Reserve, Hotel & Spa, the Haga Haga Nature Reserve, Ninky Noo’s Pub and, of course, OppiePlaas Wedding and Function Venue, Pub & Restaurant. Furthermore, Marsh Strand, Kei Mouth, Morgan Bay and various Transkei resorts such as Trenneries and Seagulls are all within a day’s drive. East London, which offers all amenities, is located 60 km from OppiePlaas.

ANY TIME IS A GOOD TIME TO VISIT

Haga Haga, a malaria free area, has a moderate climate and lies in a summer rainfall area. Its peak holiday seasons are December/January and April when the village bursts at its seams and is a hive of activity. Tourists wanting to enjoy the tranquility that Haga Haga offers nevertheless often visit during the off-season.
