Wat je gaat doen
Learn the art of textile sculpture in this full day workshop, based in the beautiful location of the Lamorna Valley, near Penzance, Cornwall. We will start the day by choosing to make either a Highland Cattle or a Sheep, before learning how to build a simple armature using every day materials such as fencing wire, bubble wrap & tin foil as the base for our Animal Sculpture. Next, you will learn how to mix your own air drying clay using Powertex fabric hardener & Stone Art powder. Once mixed, apply the clay to your armature to form the basic animal shape. We will then add personality to our animals - a face, hooves, ears using simple sculpting tools, all under the expert guidance of Liz Dixon, your certified Powertex tutor. Weather permitting, we can eat lunch on the terrace, taking advantage of the view across the woods of Lamorna Valley from our slightly elevated position. Alternatively, there is a glass walled dining area if the weather is not conducive to outdoor dining. After lunch, you will use textiles dipped in Powertex to add a woolly coat to your animal before finishing with your choice of pigment colours to highlight the texture. Take your animal home at the end of the day. Weather resistant after 3 weeks air drying.
I have been creating art using recycled textiles & Powertex fabric hardener for the last 8 years, being an early adopter of the product when it first came over to the UK from Belgium. Having started by interest making items for craft fairs, I was asked to become a Certified Powertex Tutor (one for the first in the UK) & have been running workshops using this versatile medium for the last 6 years. Having gained all 4 levels of Tutor Training I have now been selected as one of only 6 Powertex Tutor Training Academies in the UK & am now working towards my Powertex Masters Certificate (the highest certification in this field). I regularly teach textile sculpture & mixed media workshops from my home studio in Northants as well as guest tutoring for the WI Denman College & several other venues, plus my new studio in West Cornwall.

Maximaal 6 gasten van 18 en ouder mogen deelnemen.
This is a fun, but messy (arty) workshop. We will use recycle textiles & a water based, non-toxic, environmentally friendly fabric hardener which may accidentally splash on clothing. This is why we ask that participants wear old clothes. The workshop is perfectly suitable for complete beginners.
