Wat je gaat doen
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. This traditional and formal art may seem esoteric, but this is not the case. Anyone is capable of creating a fantastic work of art by themselves after acquiring the basic concepts and fundamental skills of this art. Don't worry, I introduce the essential knowledge about ikebana, its history and background at beginning. Next, by watching the instruction, you will learn the basic concepts, allowing you to grasp an image for your own work. And let's try to create an ikebana art work yourself! I'll give you a hand when you need it. Since you have travelled to this "strange island" it would be a waste not to experience our genuinely unique culture! - Facebook Page: Ami Kyoto - Instagram: @ami_kyoto
Hi, I'm Kimiko. I love traveling and have visited almost 30 countries. As I majored in English language and culture at the university, I'd been interested in cultural exchange for long. I'm more than glad to offer this workshop for foreign tourists staying in Kyoto. I've studied ikebana for 17 years. My mother and aunt are ikebana masters and I started to learn this Japanese art of flower arrangement on their recommendation. I think ikebana is a dialog with nature, and now it's indispensable for my life as it is really relaxing and therapeutic. Since ikebana used to be a required "mannerism" for well-educated men, such as samurais or monks, both men and women are welcomed. It's very pleasant to create an artwork expressing your own aesthetic sense. Let's have fun together!!
