Wat je gaat doen

Captain Scott and Karen will first show you around Tuuli and point out safety features and tell you what to expect. Then we’ll hoist sails on Tuuli within minutes of departing the marina to start our 3-hour sailing trip in Puget Sound. You’ll get the chance to help raise sails and take the helm or just relax and let us do the work. If you’re new to sailing and interested in learning we’ll show you some basics. If the winds are light, we will spend some time quietly drifting, or we can motor by some local sights like the ship canal and West Point light house. If the winds are strong we can have an exciting ride, or adjust our trim and point of sail to keep you comfortable. We often get close to seals, sea lions, harbor porpoises, a variety of seabirds and maybe even Orca and Humpback whales so bring your camera to capture memories of the beauty of Puget Sound. We will show you a good time, keep you comfortable, and you’ll return to the marina energized and amazed, whether this is your first time to the Pacific Northwest or you’re a seasoned local! NEW FOR 2020 YOU WILL RECEIVE OUR COVID-19 PLAN IN THE WELCOME MESSAGE WHEN YOU BOOK YOUR TRIP, OR CONTACT US AND WE'LL SEND IT TO YOU IN ADVANCE.

Scott & Karen will share their love of the sailing life and local knowledge, having sailed together for 15 years extensively cruising the Puget Sound and Canadian waters as well as the Caribbean. Scott has lived in Seattle for 30 years, has a USCG Captains License and more than 40 years of sailing experience on a wide variety of boats on the east and west coasts, including racing small and large boats, and a blue-water ocean crossing to Hawaii. Scott and Karen have lots of stories to tell and would like to hear yours! Tuuli means “wind” in the Finnish language, and is the name of our 42-foot sailboat. You will enjoy Tuuli’s spacious cockpit, open deck and comfortable cabin below.

Waar je naartoe gaat

Based in Seattle's largest marina, we typically sail 5-6 miles west across Puget Sound towards Bainbridge Island and the Olympic Mountains. In addition to snow capped mountains (Mt Rainier and Baker volcanoes), and wildlife you won’t see from shore, sights can include scenic city skylines, historic waterfronts, ferries, and shipping traffic underway. We might even be able to watch a large sailboat race from the water. Custom trips available!

Scott and his wife showed us the best time during our 3 hour cruise of Puget Sound. I cannot say enough about how amazing the experience was. The boat was beautiful, the location incredible, and they somehow even conjured up a pod of Orca whales to entertain us on our trip. I would do this trip a hundred times over.

Scott and Karen were wonderful hosts and sailors. They educated me about sailing and their other passions. I appreciated that we could help sail the boat or choose to relax in the sun or shade. We saw lots of marine life and learnt about Seattle coast line. Scott is very passionate about sailing and it shows as Karen and Scott try to offer an experience that matches your desires. Happily recommend this trip to anyone who is keen for sailing around Seattle.

Scott and his wife were genuinely friendly, happy to host, and we felt at home on their beautiful boat above & below deck. This was my first time sailing and I had several questions, all of which were happily explained. I was allowed to help with raising sails and even took the wheel for a spell. Other couples spent time privately on the bow of the boat enjoying the drinks and waves, sunset and random sea life we encountered. This was a great experience led by a husband and wife team that had obviously done this many times before. I highly recommend it based on the fact that this experience is lead by knowledgeable hosts with a passion for many outdoor activities in the Pacific Northwest, and they are experts in sailing with all the safety gear and delightful light fare. Beautiful views & excellent overall total experience!

Oh my gosh......this was an amazing experience!! From the moment we arrived Scott & Karen were very welcoming & personable. They work well as a team. Both shared their love & knowledge of sailing. They even let my husband participate in raising the mast and navigating the boat. We saw a sea lion napping on a buoy, porpoise 🐬 playing, many birds, and a seal. We weren’t fortunate enough to see the whales but they are in the area and have been seen by others. Karen served a nice spread of snacks (cheese, crackers, hummus, fruit, veggies, chocolates, and nuts). Delish! It was lovely and so peaceful out on Puget Sound. Highly recommend! ThankU sooooooo much, Scott & Karen - we loved it!!

We found the dock easily, it's well-labeled and plenty of parking in the area. Scott and his wife were there to meet us and showed us a brief safety presentation. We took off into the Puget Sound! There wasn't much wind that day so we had to motor. The wind picked up a bit as we went further into Shilshole Bay. Halfway through our sail, they were nice enough to create a beautiful charcuterie board for us and the other guests (we also brought a bottle of wine which was a great choice). We didn't get to see many landmarks or the city but we did see a sea lion lounging on a buoy! They biased on the side of safety which put us in silly life jackets haha. Overall, pretty easy and relaxing activity during pleasant weather.

Meer tips

Although Tuuli is stable, you need to be comfortable with normal sailboat motion. Guests should be comfortable using 3 steps boarding the boat and 4 steps entering the cabin. It’s difficult to accommodate mobility impairments so guests need to be able to move about unassisted.

Wat je mee moet nemen

Wear non-marking shoes, no work boots, high heels, or open toe sandals please.

Bring your sunglasses, wind/rain coats and warm clothing because it's about 10 degrees cooler on the water (Tuuli has good cockpit protection)
