Wat je gaat doen

You can share in an authentic Tea Ceremony and learn how to make matcha yourself. During the class, you can wear an ancient style of kimono (“separated style” from the Heian period). If you come with friends or family, you can make tea for each other. I am a licensed teacher from the Omotesenke school of tea here in Kyoto. Please come and join us for a real experience of the tea ceremony. I can help you understand the significance of the Way of Tea, and welcome all your questions. We are the member of Kyoto City Tourism Association. (PLEASE NOTE) * You can take your pictures before and after the class. * Please do not take pictures and videos for the demonstration and other guests. * The class lasts for between 30 and 60 minutes * If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, we cannot provide kimono. * If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, we have to cancel the class to avoid disrupting the next class. The fee is not refundable. Please be sure to check the location and time carefully before you come to class.

Aya

Hi, I’m Aya. I was born in Kyoto in 1967. I started to learn Tea Ceremony when I was 13 years old. Even now, I continue to learn from my own teacher. Tea ceremony is connected with other aspects of Japanese culture such as Ikebana (traditional flower arrangement) and Shodō (traditional calligraphy). It’s not just making or drinking tea. In Kyoto these days there are many tea ceremony experiences led by people unconnected with the Way of Tea. I provide this class as a licenced teacher from the Omotesenke school of tea, and as someone born, raised and living in Kyoto. My class is for people who want an authentic experience of the tea ceremony. I welcome all your questions about the Way of Tea. If you have 5 people or more in your group, please contact me directly before you make a booking.

Waar je naartoe gaat

Our classroom is located in center of Kyoto, very cozy and comfortable with a good atmosphere, but it is not Japanese style house. It’s convenience and accessible for wheelchairs and baby strollers. We welcome everyone regardless of disability, age or background. We use a style of tea ceremony where you can sit on a chair, so everyone can participate. This is called [Ryurei Style] is also used in formal tea ceremony.
