Wat je gaat doen
I am going to be your guide and translator to navigate through Jakarta's lively streets. We can start in the morning by having a cup of coffee at the famous Old Town, followed with a sightseeing tour of historical architectures around the area while I introduce you to this country's colonial history. Then, we will proceed with visiting renowned landmarks such as the National Monument (Monas) and the National Museum of Indonesia to further learn about Indonesia's multicultural and multiethnic history from Hindu-Buddhist to colonial times. Afterwards, we will follow the culinary adventure of famous YouTube food bloggers, such as James Trevor of Food Ranger fame and Mark Wiens of Migrationology as well as deep places where most local food connoisseurs flock. We will start from Chinese Indonesian cuisine in Petak Sembilan and Mangga Besar, traditional soup Soto Betawi, Nasi Goreng Gila, street vendor curry Gultik, and last but not least, rich-flavoured, spicy Padang cuisine that will blow your mind if you're daring enough.
I am an aspiring historian with a keen interest in late antiquity and medieval history who likes to travel all over East and South East Asia. I speak British English and Japanese having studied in Japan for several years; thus my experience will be catered towards English and Japanese speaking travellers. I am also a secular humanist and gender egalitarian who wants people of various ethnicity, faith, and sexual orientation to feel safe and understand Indonesia better; in spite of the misinformation that people may have occasionally heard overseas.
Wat er is inbegrepen
Local finger bites, as well as any request that you have in mind (you should try the best Chinese doughnut in Jakarta!)
Waar je naartoe gaat
We will be taking a stroll outdoors around the area of Old Town, especially Fatahillah Square, as well as museums and if you wish, culinary detour around Jakarta. In the evening, we can go to Pecenongan Culinary Street to get a taste of famous local stuffed pancake called Martabak, or we can take a detour and visit places like Jalan Sabang and Blok M to try various street foods if you feel adventurous enough to eat where the locals flock.
