Wat je gaat doen
This history tour of Old Town will take you along all the best must-see local spots: the Alexandria Waterfront, Captain's Row, Market Square, the Carlyle House, Gadsby's Tavern, Christ Church, and more. Founded in 1749, the city has a rich local history ranging from the colonial period to the Civil War, and even World War II. In addition to learning about Old Town's past, you'll find out about what is going on in Alexandria today and how to make the most of your trip. The Specifics: The tour begins at Market Square, the historic center of Alexandria. From there we make a loop down to the waterfront and up Prince Street, passing the local Apothecary Shop and the Athenaeum. We wrap around the back side of Market Square to see the Carlyle House and some of Alexandria's original taverns. After Market Square, we pass George Washington's town home and stop at the site of Alexandria's first synagogue and then visit one of the city's oldest churches. The end part of the tour passes by some of the most stunning mansions in town, the Alexandria History Museum, and ends near one of the oldest wooden houses still standing. *Tour runs rain or shine.
My time in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer brought me to Alexandria where I spent time working at the Pentagon. After six years of active duty, I left the Navy to pursue a career in history, which I'm doing in a Ph.D. program at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Interested in the local history of Alexandria, I used original documents, academic expertise, and testimonies to design a tour of Alexandria that I thought friends and family would enjoy. From there, I launched my own tour company to share the wealth of information we gathered with visitors. I'm excited to share my favorite tour of Alexandria on Airbnb! Dawn is a co-host: As a Military Spouse I have moved often & traveled extensively. I also taught history for 12 years. I fell in love with Alexandria in 2005 and am thrilled to share it's rich history!

Waar je zult zijn
The first reason visitors love our tour is that we take them off the well-known main roads to explore the hidden history of Old Town. One of the lesser known properties in town is the small house of George Washington, where the first president would stay while conducting business or attending social gatherings. We also venture to another historic district which is home to one of the historic African American communities of Old Town.
