Wat je gaat doen
I will take us to three different bars. The first, we will check out a Showa themed (1940-60s) izakaya (Japanese pub) for some drinks and snacks. At the first location, I would like to use my bartending experience to talk about some of the most common cocktails of Japan (such as chuuhai or "sours"), what "shochuu" is, and explain and taste the various type of snacks commonly found in a Japanese drinking environment. The second place, we will check out a "tachinomiya", which translates to a standing bar. There, we will meet with locals and get a feel of another aspect of the drinking culture in Japan. Lastly, I will take us to a hidden quiet bar to end the night. This bar has no name nor signs, but is a secret bar only known to those introduced by the local bartenders or the regulars of the area. I want this experience to show you the night of Kyoto, so that during your stay here, you will have a starting point and confident understanding of the night life in Kyoto. And maybe you'll make new local friends on your bar hopping adventures!
Hello! My name's Julian, I'm half-Japanese, and I was born and raised in the States. I permanently moved to Kyoto 7 years ago, and during my time living here, I've worked most years as a bartender before switching to guide. Working at a pub, I became friends with many regulars and expats who's showed me to their favorite bar, and I've continued it forward by doing the same to new visitors of Kyoto. Now, I know many great bars for the occasion. Would you like a local Japanese drinking experience? Sing your heart out at a karaoke bar? Visit a hidden bar with no name? Then I'm the guide for you!

Waar je naartoe gaat
As you'll experience, Japan has an overwhelming number of bars and restaurants. At first glance, it may seem intimidating to walk into the more local areas, or just plain confusing. I will make this easier and fun for all! We'll move from the "Statue of Izumo-no-Okuni", then head to the night life area of Kyoto, and there, I would like to introduce new places, help you understand the area, and talk about the style of the night life in Japan.
