Wat je gaat doen
We'll also discover some places off the beaten track, those that tourists don't know about, where you can taste all sorts of sweet and savoury Sicilian street foods which are famous all around the world. You’ll be able to savour handmade ice cream while staring out into the deep blue beyond the seafront, or indulge yourself with our renowned street food, with countless variations on "panelle” (chickpea fritters), “crocchè" (potato fritters) and "arancine" (riceballs). We’ll discover the town together. We will take a walk inside the city’s notorious markets and visit three historical old markets: il Capo, Ballarò and La Vucciria so you can compare. At Capo market, which dates back to the XIV century, you'll be able to hear the traditional "abbaniate" by which the sellers call out to promote their merchandise. It is a folkloric and picturesque food market filled with colours, fragrance and sounds (“i vuci”) of the sellers, who, with their local accent, call out the attention of buyers by making a sort of perfomance. The "abbaniate" sits somewhere between a song and poetry in Sicilian dialect, something original you won't find anywhere else, which I'll translate for you,of course !
Wat er is inbegrepen
I'm an English teacher and I am passionate about this town, particularly when I see the expression of wonder on the faces of my foreign colleagues at the sight of our markets and the taste of our food, which has a very fine old tradition and is the product of several centuries of foreign conquest of the island. It would be my pleasure to help you discover, enjoy and share all the delicious sights, sounds and tastes which Palermo has to offer, confident in the knowledge that you are with somebody who knows this town well and who will make your holiday here a truly unforgettable experience.
