Wat je gaat doen
This is a journey for active travelers that love to walk and explore a city off the beaten track and beyond the touristy areas. We will follow the city limits, from downtown to the remotest margins, on a total of 18 km walk and 30 km by public transportation. When we finish our "long way round" you will get to know Lisbon as a whole with it's multiple faces: beautiful and chaotic, modern and rural, intense and isolated, from the rich and the poor. We start on an train towards Belém and Monsanto Forest where we’ll enjoy its calm trails until we reach an abandoned restaurant with the best 360° view in town. From there we get the bus to B. Padre Cruz, the biggest social housing district in Portugal and home to a world famous urban art scene where we'll focus on the surrounding suburbs and illegal neighborhoods built in the seventies. We’ll have lunch in one of these houses, cooked by the owners with fresh greens from their garden and an incredible view over Lisbon's suburbs. After lunch we take a taxi to Parque das Nações, the most recent part of Lisbon that we’ll cross along the river Tejo and enjoying the super modern architecture until we reach our last train back to downtown and complete the full tour of the city.
Born and raised in Lisbon, I’m a professional traveller with 3 published books and 10 years of experience as tour leader in Central America, Ethiopia, Caucasus and Morocco. I've been in 90 countries and a decade ago, I settled in Lisbon, becoming a Lisbon explorer and rediscovering my city with passion and through traveller’s eyes. I love Lisbon modern history, urbanism, walking and wonder in the city meeting locals. My goal is to show you "another" of Lisbon, take you to places where tourists are not expected and to be your "bridge" to local living. I speak English, French and Spanish

Waar je zult zijn
Our day has 3 main parts: forest, suburbs and river. We’ll start walking in Monsanto Park enjoying its trails and stunning views over the city. Then we go deep in the suburbs: we visit the biggest social housing quarter in Portugal with great urban art, visit an illegal neighborhood and eat there in a family house. After lunch we can relax with an easy walk, along the river and across "Parque das Nações" the most modern area in the city.

This is a full day experience, close to daily life: we eat in a family house we get buses and trains. Expect it as a travel day, with room for some improvisation, more than a super organized tour!
Lisbon, the long way round
