Wat je gaat doen

I’m excited to take you on a short bicycle route I discovered in one of the most beautiful places in Nara Japan! The route takes about 2 hours at an easy pace and includes seeing 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From the Horyuji Train Station, we'll ride along the Yamato River and I'll explain the geography and some history of the area. We'll take a water break at the Kamiya Iseki Park and cruise through a historic neighborhood near the Hokiji Temple. Next, we'll ride a short distance to the picturesque Horinji Temple. We'll ride by a bamboo forest to the Ikaruga Shrine which is my favorite panoramic view. I've taken my friends on this route and they often say "this is what I wanted to see in Japan." It's amazing to see small farms, ancient tombs and terraced rice-fields nestled in the foothills; you’ll get a sense of how people co-exist with nature peacefully. I also want to show you our traditional Japanese house where we can drink tea and eat Japanese sweets made at our favorite local confectionary. We can relax and have a good conversation before I guide you back to the train station.

I am a high school teacher who moved to Japan from Alaska (USA) five years ago to live with my wife in Nara. My job here has allowed me to travel around Japan and explore different cities extensively. My hobbies include cycling, photography, exploring nature and learning about Japanese history. Of all the places I have visited, Nara is my absolute favorite! I discovered an amazing bicycle route I want to share that’s great for picture taking and seeing how Japanese people live in harmony with nature. I have experience leading bicycle tours with a tour company during summer months in Alaska where I told lots of “bear” jokes. I won’t tell any bear jokes but I will show you some amazing places that are a big part of Japanese history that not many foreigners get to visit.
