Wat je gaat doen

Our running journey will start by the Angel of Uzupis in the independent republic of Uzupis which is considered to be the bohemian area for artists in Vilnius. During the warm-up, I will share some history of Vilnius and the most important facts to know about its' past and the present.

The run will start through the winding corridors of the old town through Town Hall, Stikliu street, the Presidential palace, University of Vilnius, Cathedral and the main Gediminas prospect. This will cover some of the main Vilnius attractions and I will infuse some more historical context of each place as we pass. At the end of Gediminas Prospect, we will cross the Neris river and will run back to Uzupis by the banks of Neris. On the way, we will pass the modern Vilnius Business centres, old Gediminas Castle, Sereikiskiu park and the most beautiful Onos Church.

The intensity of the run will be light so that you could listen, look around and ask questions. The total distance is 6.5km. During the run, I will also share some tips about the breathing, posture, running styles and mental preparation in order to improve your technique.

I was training karate for more than 20+ years and was a National and International Champion multiple times. The biggest achievement was the second place in the European Championship.

I started endurance sports 6 years ago by finishing my first Copenhagen (Denmark) Marathon under 4 hours. Later on Bergen (Norway), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Great China Wall (China) marathons, which is considered one of the hardest in the world. Soon after I started to train for Ironman 70.3 and 140.6 consisting of 3.8km of swimming, 180km of biking and 42km of running. My personal best time of Ironman 140.6 in Emilia-Romagna (Italy) is 11h 52min.

We did the running city tour with Kristijonas on a sunny Wednesday evening. We met at Angel of Uzupis and started a 10k run around the city. Along the way, Kristijonas showed us many of the main attractions of Vilnius and shared a lot of information about the city and the country. Kristijonas was extremely polite and the whole experience was tailored for us.

I was the only one at that day to book the running experience with Kristjonas, so I had a pretty individual and tailored experience. Kristjonas is very communicable and friendly. One hour of running around Vilnius went like a breeze. This definitely combined two of my favorite things - a workout and sightseeing tour in a new city.

Before running take a look at the weather and make sure you are well equipt for what the day has to offer. If the sun is shining and it 25+ degrees Celcius, it is well advised to have a cap. If it is cold, have a light jumper and maybe a hat. Comfortable Running shoes are the prerequisite.
