Aside from the best season of colored leaves, you can enjoy beautiful maple leaves in Kyoto. And during spring, you can see stunning cherry blossoms! Why don’t you go see them with me, to where you can enjoy tranquil beautiful sceneries and atmosphere far away from tourism?

I take you to some of my favorite temples in my neighborhood, which are true hidden gems of Kyoto. Whenever I visit them, I see only a few Japanese people there. They are like well kept secrets of Kyoto...you’ll be definitely surprised and impressed.
All of those temples I will bring you have really peaceful atmosphere, great sights of impressive architectures and mysterious statues of Buddha, and amazing natural sceneries with stunning Japanese maple trees, and lovely cherry blossoms as well! Furthermore each of them has interesting episodes related to Japanese history and culture. Talking of that, one of them is a really special temple which has deep connection with Imperial Family, and that temple has an impressive lovely Japanese garden! You can relax yourself and have a lovely break there!

What I would like to provide you is a special, priceless opportunity where you can avoid hundreds of people and admire sceneries and beauty more peacefully far away from over tourism in Kyoto, also where you can get deep insights and learn more about Japan and the way of life here.

Hi, I’m Yoko! I am a singer songwriter, artist, and a tour guide specialized in Kyoto. I am originally from Tokyo, however I’ve lived in Kyoto for over 12years and been in love with this amazing old city since I moved here!
I became a co host of Fushimi Inari Hiking Tour, which is one of the most popular tours in Kyoto on Airbnb. Through that tour, fortunately I’ve met so many nice people and got really good reviews! Also I often plan “perfect personal tours” for people, based on their interests or likes. So far, everyone got satisfied with plans I made for them, which makes me happy.
I don’t like crowded places, having said that I know a lot of hidden gems of Kyoto. Now I’m trying to learn more about Japanese cultures, about the depths of them.
It’ll be my big pleasure to see you and help make your travel even more special&enjoyable!

Waar je naartoe gaat

First we meet at a station which is close to a certain renowned temple in Kyoto. We just pass that temple while enjoying looking at pretty sights of maple leaves and walking through a peaceful neighborhood.
Then we reach one big temple, which has some temples in their property. We visit 4temples in total. They are nearly 20minutes away from the station, off the beaten path and full of impressive amazing sights!

Overall this tour absolutely amazing! Even though it was a busy weekend in a popular area the tour route that Yoko took me on was completely without any other foreign tourists. The only other people we saw were all Japanese and there were no crowds. Having already been in Kyoto for several days, I felt like I was in a whole different city on this tour! I was able to get some stunning photos without any people in them or big crowds in the background! As a solo traveler I was also able get her to take my picture which is always hard to do when you’re by yourself! I happened to be the only guest on the tour, and she really made me feel special and not rushed at all. I was able to ask all my questions, big or small and she knew almost all the answers. There were of course some few things she was not sure of, but she would just ask the local attendants of the shrines or temples for clarification. You could really tell that she was genuinely interested in the history and customs. She does a lot of reading of history on her own because she is interested in it herself. Yoko is also super friendly and very funny! She shared details about herself and other things she is interested in also which was really cool and fun to hear. The time flew by because she made me feel so welcome. Speaking of the actual tour, she took me to places I would have never found on my own or would have just walked right by unknowingly. Some of the places were very special with important historical backgrounds that you just don’t ever hear about as a typical tourist. We got to see some places that historically no one was allowed to see and even though she had been there before, a few had new areas open that day that were previously closed to the public. If I had tried to do this on my own I would not only have not understood the meaning of what I was looking at, but I think I would have really stuck out as a tourist. The tour felt more like I had a local friend who was just taking me around the city. It was very un-rushed and we went at the pace that I wanted to go. Afterward she took me to a couple local food spots to try some very good food that again I would not ever think to try. One place was even a special shop that had invented their own proprietary product that could only be found at that shop, served by the owner/inventor. I am more of a foodie than a history buff, so this was extra special and truly a once in a lifetime experience! You will just have to take this tour to find out the secrets! I really can’t say enough good things about this tour and about the guide Yoko. She is a true native and local Kyotoite. Her English is very good, and even the few words or phrases she didn’t understand I could easily re-word another way so that she did. She is very interested in all different cultures, and was interested to hear what things were like where I’m from also. I truly think that I made new friend and was not just a customer, which is very rare! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE THIS TOUR! It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Kyoto that will stick with me forever.

We had an wonderful time with Yoko! She showed us hidden gems that even most Kyoto residents are unaware of. This was perfect because we were able to enjoy them all to ourselves. There were several times where I would have walked right past a national treasure, hidden temple or sacred tree but Yoko was able to point them out and explain their importance. I highly recommend this tour if you’re someone who wants to learn more about Japanese culture, see beautiful gardens and architecture, or if you just need a break from the popular but crowded tourist spots.

I really enjoyed Yoko`s tour! I live in Japan since almost 2 years and I’ve been before to Kyoto twice, but Yoko took me to places I had never seen before (probably only Japanese know). I’m also a Japanese tea fan and very picky when it comes to that, so I asked her where could I buy good green tea (besides in the typical chains which are overcrowded by turists). She took me to a local store with high quality tea but half price of what you can find in popular stores. We also went to a pottery shop with hand made stuff made of ceramic which was in a local neighborhood, the prices for tea pots were similar of what you find in a supermarket chain, but they were hand made!. I regret I only bought 1, because such quality for that price you don’t find it easily if you are not proficient in reading / writing Japanese. In addition, she knew so much of each of the temples we visited, that it really made a difference between my previous trips (always going without tour guide) and this trip. She is also fully fluent in English as she lived for some time in Canada. At the end of the tour, we exchanged our emails and we added each other on facebook. So next time Im going to Kyoto I will definitely contact her! If you want to spend an authentic weekend in Kyoto, visit temples and heard stories that mostly only Japanese know, I strongly recommend you to take the tour with Yoko!

Yoko's tour was a truly wonderful experience and I highly recommend to join her if it is possible! She knows Kyōto very well and is able to take one off the beaten path and show some truely magical places where almost no other tourist can be seen. Kyōto, even though being a very beautiful city, has been much affected by the increase in tourists visiting over the last years, and this certainly has changed the way one experiences the city especially at the popular tourist spots. With Yoko however, it becomes possible again to experience Kyōto as the ancient, beautiful capital of Japan that it once was. The autumn season is of course an especially beautiful time to come to Kyōto. Yoko is extremely helpful and we were able to become real friends. There are not many opportunities anymore to experience 'the real Kyōto', so it is recommended to take the tour as long as it is possible!

Yoko has amazing energy, enthusiasm and all around good vibes around her. She took us to places that travellers don't necessarily know and that was evident from the lack of tourists in the places that we went to. The autumn leaves were absolutely stunning while Yoko gave us lot of insight about the temples and gardens that we visited. The tour felt really relaxed and there was plenty of time to go around in your own pace which felt nice. I absolutely recommend this tour for everyone interested in amazing nature, knowledge about Japan and temples/shrines. Also at the end of the tour we went to the most amazing Japanese style hamburger joint called DRAGON BURGER. It is not included in the price but I highly recommend. One of the top 3 burgers in my life. 5/5 Thank you so much Yoko and may the force be with you!

Meer tips

This is not a hiking tour, however to get to places we are visiting, we need to walk for a while.
In addition, those hidden gems where I take you are really precious and amazing, because they’re hidden. Therefore, I would like you to keep names of those places secret, after you visit them.

Wat je mee moet nemen

Cash(at the last temple we visit, I ask you to pay entrance fee by yourself. If you want, you can enjoy delicious traditional sweets and Matcha(tea) there! Credit cards are not available at temples)

Proper shoes(we walk all the way to temples and it will take definitely more than 30minutes. I don’t recommend to wear high heels)
