Wat je gaat doen

We will meet each other and our horse friends at the Sandy Hook Equestrian Center, in Newtown CT. We will greet the horses, learning a bit about "horse etiquette." We will learn and practice the games horses play with each other to determine leadership. No riding is involved. Games and ‘conversations’ with horses will help us explore our own body language. Psychology informs us that non-verbal communication such as- posture, muscle tension, expression, tone of voice- all contribute much more than the actual words we say, in how we are understood. Horses understand and speak body language fluently, and are extremely skilled at showing us how our communication is being understood by others. Just being in the presence of a horse synchronizes our heart rate and brain waves, lowering the stress hormones in our bodies. And increasing feelings of well-being. Yet there is no more honest life coach than a horse. They teach us the skills for healthy relationships with uncanny insight and gentleness, but also assertiveness and honesty. The horses we will interact with are wise and gentle. They have helped children and adults heal after the terrible elementary school shooting tragedy. We will groom and take care of our new friends at the end of the session and process what they helped us feel and learn.

Rebecca

I have loved and ridden horses my entire life- teaching and training for 30 plus years, with background in various English disciplines. My obsession is integrating "Natural Horsemanship" and positive reinforcement ("clicker training.") There is a shift in horse culture happening- to more collaborative, safe, fun and effective training. Research shows these animals learn faster, retain longer and bond stronger with the handler! I manage the Sandy Hook Equestrian Center in Newtown CT, a beautiful and newly renovated 30 acre horse farm. I have published articles on helping our horses manage stress- in simple and scientific ways. I do frequent public demos and clinics on positive reinforcement and natural horsemanship. I am equally interested in human and animal psychology and have education and training in psychology and personal growth
