Wat je gaat doen
Do you love trail running and enjoy the countryside? If so, this is the perfect activity for you. We start our journey from Bogotá heading up the mountains to the town of La Calera by car, you will try arepas with cheese, hot chocolate or agua de panela, (sugar cane water) to get some energy. Then, we will go to the town of Guasca which in the Muisca indigenous language means ¨Rodeada de cerros¨ (surrounded by mountains), from there our running adventure begins. We´ll take a dirt road towards the Chingaza National park with amazing views and landscape from the Andes mountain range. We will see beautiful potato, onions, and blueberry fields. As we gain altitude you will see the changing in vegetation and trees due to the immersion into the Páramo ecosystem which is unique in Colombia and a few countries in Latin america. Our goal is to get to the main entrance and cabin that belong to the Chingaza national park. After a break we will head back to Guasca to visit the local market & try some fruits, have a bowl of soup and perhaps buy the exquisite local grown blueberry. Total distance: 26k (17miles) round trip. Running time: 5 hours round trip. Lowest elevation: 2,710m (8,890ft). Highest elevation: 3,350m (10,990ft). I recommend you to stay in Bogota at least 36 to 48 hours before going to the activity, that way your body will get used to the high altitude and acclimate.
Hi everyone, I'm Jaime, I love outdoor activities and direct contact with the mountains and nature. I got certified in tourism in rural areas and nature tours. I volunteered as a park ranger in the national natural parks of Chingaza & El Cocuy. I am also a trail runner and I enjoy it a lot due to the freedom and energy that nature produces. Come with me to experience amazing landscapes. True peace is found in nature.
