Wat je gaat doen

We will start the tour on Lexington Green, one of the best known landmarks of that fateful day when the American Revolution began. We will recount stories about that day, some familiar and many not that well known, like the house where Paul Revere was told to be quite as he was spreading the alarm.

We will then head toward Concord, making several stops along the way at locations with many other surprising tales that may be contrary to popular accounts.

In Concord we will visit the Old North Bridge and learn about heroic and tragic events that took place at the bridge and surrounding area.

On the return leg we will visit several little known but very significant sites with their own stories to tell. We will complete the adventure where we started, on Lexington Green, to talk about the horrific British retreat to Boston.

I hope that guests will gain a new appreciation of that historic day, when a group of poorly trained and poorly equipped, but highly motivated farmers and tradespeople stood up to the greatest military force in the world.

I have lived in the Minuteman area of Massachusetts for over 50 years and I have become totally immersed in the history of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, a pivotal event in American History. My interest led to the production of three LPs of period music for the Bicentennial. To prepare these albums I scoured the local libraries and historical societies for information. My research has led to many fascinating discoveries about the events of the day. I would like to share these with you, including anecdotes, secrets, stories, legends and popular misconceptions that I uncovered. I think you will be surprised and entertained by these tales that don't often get told.

Waar je naartoe gaat

We will be visiting a dozen sites of significance in Lexington, Lincoln and Concord, some well known (Lexington Green, Old North Bridge) but some often overlooked (Merriam's Corner, Bloody Angle, Fiske Hill, Hayward's Well, Minuteman Boulder, others) plus a site I will not name because it will give away it's surprising story. Time permitting, we will also stop at the historic Colonial Inn in Concord for some refreshments midway on the tour.

I can’t say enough about the quality of my experience with Fred. We planned the trip before the country shut down—and our tour with Fred was the day before AirBnB cancelled everything. It was the only thing we got to do—and I am genuinely glad it was the one thing that happened. I have studied history only in relation to literature, and Fred incorporated my passion for the American Transcendentalists into the tour—and also gave me a lasting impression and appreciation of how the battles of Lexington and Concord played out, and how personal history really is. He was also kind, patient, and funny, and we enjoyed his company. If you do NOTHING ELSE in Massachusetts, do this. You won’t forget the day!

This was an experience you want to have if you are interested in the American Revolution. His factual information is spot on. I’m a History teacher and I appreciated the nuggets of information.

You’ll spend three hours discovering a day and a half of an English campaign to disarm the American patriots, how the situation escalated. Who were the minute men? Fred has done the research. You’ll travel the same road as Paul Revere and other patriots. Fred is also a gracious host.

Our tour of Lexington and Concord with Fred was fantastic. Setting up the experience, he was very responsive and flexible about what time we could start the tour and was able to accommodate 5 of us instead of the usual 3. Then the tour itself was excellent. Fred has encyclopedic knowledge of the revolutionary war, particularly as it relates to the events of April 18-19, 1775. He told us great stories at a number of locations that really helped us picture what it was like to live through that time period. This was so much better than a commercialized bus tour and we learned much more than if we had just visited the area by ourselves. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about the American Revolution.

Fred’s tour was the highlight of our trip to Boston! A very kind and accommodating host, Fred combines a near-encyclopedic knowledge of history of the Boston area during the Revolution with an engaging storytelling style and passion for his subject that captivated my friend and me, both history buffs ourselves. The three of us had such a wonderful time together that I hope this will be just the first of many tours with Fred. Five stars, highest recommendation!
